'acupuncture, yoga, meditation and animal-assisted therapy for chronic pain.'
I have done all this including Pilates. Not allowed to have a dog where I live. Cat animal assistance is the best I can get at present.
I have done the acupuncture (no help), yoga I cannot do, due to balance problems, meditation I do on a daily basis and visual stimulation I also do daily. Physical therapy is not an option for me at present (I have done PT 12 times already with more pain issues) due to my medical condition and the only things the doctor recommends is drugs.
Back operation a risk procedure at present. Tens unit no help.
Recommended for spinal cord stimulator but after research, not recommended at present.
So what next?
Let's have the Senator change places with my medical condition and see what he recommends next?

If the dog is designated and trained as a "Service Dog" you cannot be prevented from having it. Covered under the Americans with Disabilites Act. The sad part is that too many people make the false claim that their MUTT is a "Service Dog" and can get away with it.
