I guess they all wear purple and practice casting spells and have sacrificial ceremonies, too.

They may no realize it but these adults have some serious blood on their hands.

Did your parents give you a choice when they dragged you to church as a young child? You want to talk about blood on their hands? What about all those poor Jewish kids that have to deal with the effects of Passover on their young psyches. Let's face it, thousands of innocent first born children were killed by god simply because they were Egyptian and now Jewish parents force their children to celebrate this slaughter every year.

I don't know how they can live with themselves.

Purple? I thought it was black t-shirts with Heavy Metal band logos that was the symbol of evil for some folks, that along with backward masking. I guess purple is the new black...somebody better notify the fashion gurus...

It is interesting how many uneducated assumptions have been made in many of the preceding comments.

The equinox is a physical event that happens only twice a year when the sun crosses the equator and day and night everywhere on earth are approximately of equal length.

The celebration was intended to connect children to the natural rhythms of the fall season and the school community. It is not a religious ritual of any denomination—Christian, pagan or otherwise.

The school is indeed a peaceful place where children and families of all spiritual, ethnic and political persuasions are respectfully welcome. It is also a dynamic educational environment where children are taught to think for themselves and to discover their own unique truths and gifts.

How is this behavior considered by you to be unusual, any different from the kids at Carolina Day School who dressed up like Monarch Butterflies and "migrated" across the playground?
Just because the school is alternative doesn't mean that the teaching methods are suspect.

So what you are saying is that, though you have never attended an equinox ceremony, you know first hand what happens at these events.
Well "darlin'", I'm a Christian who sends his kids to RMCS. And I can tell you that there is more "Christian" ethics being taught at the school than in the public system. Tolerance and respect, love for God's earth and humility.
The Equinox ceremony was simply a celebration of the turning of the seasons. By the way... Easter was originally a Pagan celebration (yet another equinox celebration).
Modern-day Easter is derived from two ancient traditions: one Judeo-Christian and the other Pagan. Both Christians and Pagans have celebrated death and resurrection themes following the Spring Equinox for millennia. Most religious historians believe that many elements of the Christian observance of Easter were derived from earlier Pagan celebrations.
The equinox occurs each year on March 20, 21 or 22. Both Neopagans and Christians continue to celebrate religious rituals linked to the equinox in the present day. Wiccans and other Neopagans usually hold their celebrations on the day or eve of the equinox. Western Christians wait until the Sunday on or after the next full moon. The Eastern Orthodox churches follow a different calculation; their celebration is often many weeks after the date selected by the Western churches.

My daughter went there, it's not a training center for witches. It's a school that produces some really bright kids. The kids don't have to worry about having religion/politics/etc jammed down their throats. If anything the kids learn to respect their environment and surroundings.

They're kids, leave them alone.

This school is the best! The people there are my family! I have been at this school for nine years!

Has any of those wonderful people who are teaching you to celebrate and appreciate the earth so much ever bothered to teach you to celebrate and appreciate The One who CREATED and GAVE you the earth?

While claiming these ceremonies are harmless, over the years, these ceremonies have made many Christian families uncomfortable. Many of them chose to take their children elsewhere because of a clear antagonism towards Christians and main stream ideologies. It is an alternative school, and the school isn't inclusive as they would like to believe. They do have many gifts to offer, but they would do well to acknowledge Jesus Christ too. Perhaps then they could really explore the multi-cultural world they proudly proclaim to embrace.

Maybe we need to start a real support system for Christian parents who are realizing there aren't many options for their children.
