At this point I've been living around Ukiah long enough to have seen some changes drift through. Full Story

LMAO, Tom you are a genius! I look forward to each and every column you write and always finish reading it with a smile on my face!
Keep up the good work, Satire is a beautiful style and is exemplified in your writing, Between you and me though, satire is based in truth.

We still don't have a skate park but we do have Mac Nab's Mens Wear so what's there to complain about.

Yup Ukiah sucks. Its full of junkies. It looks far worse than lake county. The city doesn't promote healthy economic growth. And the population is growing in numbers, and more poor each year.

Im getting out of this town before it swallows me and my family up.

Another beaut TWK. I go back even further than you and can add:

Ukiah used to have locally owned Straw's Pizza and the renowned Rockey's Pizza. Now we have the leathery ketchup covered dough provided by low-end chains and Marino's.

Ukiah's youth used to ride to ballgames in the back of their coach's pickup and enjoy a root beer float after the game. Now,each player is ferried to the game by mommy and daddy who yell insults at the opposing team, umps, and their kids' coaches for an hour before picking up some ketchup slathered leather dough on the way home.

Ukiah used to have a gas station on every corner. Now, every corner houses a Mexican restaurant (I guess there has been some progress).

Ukiah used to have colorful "winos" who would buy wayward teens a six-pack in exchange for one for themselves. Now, we have deranged drug-addled "transients" and parolees forming an endless procession, interrupted only by welfare mom's pushing perambulators loaded with infants, up and down State St.

Darn TWK, if you didn't entertain me so much, I'd be depressed.

Ukiah's kids were free to bike or walk anywhere in town, unchaperoned without fear. Now, roaming youths are likely to run into some growers' pot garden, a wacked-out druggie, or a gaggle of gang-bangers looking for the wrong-colored t-shirt.

Rocky's Pizza where you could watch the dough being flipped into the air and enjoy a game of pool. After the game a trip to Rones Ice Cream Parlor. Gas stations..Moose Ganter's Chevron and Pearson's where you would get triple Blue Chip Stamps. Foggy's Liquors was a good place to find a buyer, before that it was Bob's Bar down by rail road tracks. Biking in Ukiah, as a kid if you didn't didn't dismount and walk your bike through the cross walk and a UPD saw you they would give you a talking to. If you snuck out at night and got caught by the PD after curfew they would call your folks. Oh and the family doctors who would come to your home after office hours to treat you.

The Hub! A lot of Ukiah lads got their first peeks at Playboy in there. Medico Drugs, right next door, and Wildberger's just up the street offered such friendly service and great touches like a pickle barrel, etc.

Hikes up Gibson Creek were also a blast, till the land baron Nix bought land adjacent to the Standley Street access point and locked it up tighter than Fort Knox. Criminal.

A&W was great, as was Henneys'(sp?) ice cream and candy on N. State.

Football and baseball games at Anton Stadium were also a blast. Drive In movies, too. Those were the days.

Wake up Ukiah! It's the people's fault for electing the bozos it has. Ukiah has always had idiots when it comes to planning, business, and esthetics. They have made blunder after blunder to make what could be a wonderful place to live. Even 30 years ago Ukiah was a mess and today even more so. It looks plastic and cheap. Why don't the elected officials make better decisions? Well, when Ukiah elects guys like David Colfax what does it expect?
