Exercise and Oral Health

Howís your activity level? What kinds of exercise do you do each day? No, walking from the car to the house doesnít count.
Any physical activity that gets you moving and active can qualify as exercise. That could be walking, dancing or working in your yard. You donít have to get an expensive gym membership, join a sports team or buy fancy equipment. You just need to get started. People who exercise report that they feel better, are stronger and have the endurance they need to get through the day. Plus exercise and the feeling of being fit offers you a mental boost as well.
Exercise is also credited with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, which can reduce your risk for stroke or heart disease. And people who exercise have stronger hearts, muscles and bones. Plus, itís a great stress reliever and absolutely necessary if you want to lose weight.
Best of all, itís never too late to get active. If youíre not exercising right now, this is definitely something you should consider. Check with your doctor before starting any exercise program and then get going. Walking is probably the best, cheapest, easiest way to get started on an exercise regimen. Regular walking will:
Increase your energy
Help you relax
Help reduce stress
Improve your sleep
Tone your muscles
Help control your appetite
Increase your calorie use
Help prevent diabetes if you have been told you have prediabetes
Lifestyle changes are difficult. Just about everyone has days when they donít eat like they should or get the exercise they need. So if you miss a day of exercise or have a forbidden food donít use that as an excuse to not eat healthily the rest of that day or the next day, or to get back on your exercise schedule the following day.
