" 'I think there is a tremendous stigma in talking about mental illness or suicide,' Dr. Paula Clayton, said," is the exact corollary of "I think there is a tremendous stigma in talking about sexual assault." I would not select her to counsel a teenager who had survived sexual assault, would you? Not would I select any counselor who posed the term "stigma" in a counseling relationship. It is both unethical to introduce and unprofessional.

One hopes the film does not "teach teens" that term, passes it along as routinely as we once passed along the other.

I am 72, my mother died of "breast" cancer. It was a time when the "stigma" of talking about "breast" cancer kept many women silent. Perhaps it was the public mention of the term "breast," I do not know. This I do know, it cost many women their lives, they waited too long to speak about it out of sociological fear.

You are inducing that same fear with your usage, I am certain it is not deliberate. I am as certain the results are identical: Some will remain silent, and they will suffer greatly for so doing. You do not want that, nor do I.
Research has shown that more than 90 percent of teens who die by suicide have a mental disorder at the time of their death. Most often that disorder is depression.
"Research" is a very broad term. The above claim is one. There are many others. The causes of suicide are many.

I am so glad this dvd will get out there. And i took part in the 18miles Overnight walk in June and to see the numbers of people like me who have been affected by suicide and losing loved ones was so hard. We need to show kids that suicide is not the answer and that there are ways to get better.
