What should we do about pornography?

There are 9 comments on the New Scientist story from Dec 15, 2013, titled What should we do about pornography?. In it, New Scientist reports that:

The long-term effects of sexually explicit material on young people are unclear, but there are still steps we can and should take, say a forensic psychologist and a public health lecturer LAST month the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England published the results of a two-year inquiry into sexual exploitation among children and ... "pornography is linked to unrealistic attitudes about sex, beliefs that women are sex objects, and less-progressive gender role attitudes."

I guess even scientists can be morons. Women ARE sex objects, as proven by millennia of human history and pre-history. That does not mean they are MERELY sex objects, or should be.

I'm willing to buy that people with "less-progressive gender role attitudes" may consume more pornography. I'd like to see one shred of evidence that pornography causes such attitudes. Ditto for "the involvement of alcohol and drugs in sex." Correlation does not imply causality.

"Even though evidence is lacking in some areas, it is possible to suggest how the impact of pornography on young people could be addressed."

So now "scientists" are people who advocate changes in public policy without any scientific evidence to support them. Well, that clears up how "global warming" works too.

And should we be surprised by the prescription? Higher taxes, more spending on social programs that don't work, and restricting the access of adults to explicit material in the name of protecting children.

Since I only look at gay male porn, I do not buy the argument that "pornography is linked to unrealistic attitudes about sex, beliefs that women are sex objects, and less-progressive gender role attitudes."

Are they claiming that "porn" only applies to women ?

Of course they are. These Puritans can't conceive that anyone other than straight males would want to view porn.

Since all the porn I see on the web is absolutely free, I'd like to know how they make money from it and keep the websites running.

If we stopped trying to make sex seem taboo and stopped trying to make women feel like sluts for enjoying it, maybe the attitudes would seem less "unrealistic." We don't have to do anything about porn, except make sure that the models are consenting adults.

Tell the kiddies that they should stop watching porn if they think girls won't have hair between their legs. It is funny as hell reading the comments or listening to people bitch about it.

Yes guys see girls as sex objects, it's a shame,

Allow it. If someone wants to view it, why stop them? As a society we need to open up about nudity and sexuality!
In my opinion, if someone is walking around naked, that shouldn't be a problem! Heck, I don't have a problem with public sex or public masturbation either. I mean, whats the worst that can happen? Maybe you have to clean up after someone cums on you. Not that big a deal!
Get over it weirdos, pornography, nudity, and sex are here to stay!
