I called my wife from work the other day and asked her one question: "Hi Honey. Hey listen, how would you feel about adopting a little boy?" There was extended silence on the other end of the phone. Read more

there should be more people like this guy in the world. I hope the mother is unable to sleep for the reat of her lifebut, people like her have no consious on what they do wrong or feel any remorse on what they do wrong. I can;t believe that DSS just turned their head on this child. WHAT ARE THEY GETTING PAID TOO DO FOR OR KIDS THAT ARE CRING OUT FOR HELP.......

Why didn't the school call the Police? They should have the first time the child mention to them what was going on. It shouldn't take a child three times to mention what is going on for the Police to be called.

Both offenders of this abuse to this poor child should be sitting in a dark cold jailceil for the rest of their pathic lives. I will never ever comprehend this type of evil aganist children. In my opinion anyone that who brings such pain and neglect to a child should be in jail for the rest of their lives and have the word 'condemned' burnt into their skin preferrably into their foreheads so that if for some ridiculous reason they get out of jail this cannot be concealed. Good luck to those that do such a crime when you are standing before God on judgement day nothing here on earth will ever compare to the punishment you will suffer.

... and so it goes, over and over again in our country. Keep the family unit together at all costs. Reunification is the prime directive for social services organizations, and just what do they think is happening to the children while all of this is going on? It is a shameful stain upon our society.

I agree the school should have called the police the first time instead of waiting for DSS to check it out let the police go first and then they can call DSS but the police would have the power to take the children out of the home right away.

Good article, but I think the author should get a little more of a clue about what really happened before writing an article like this. I do also agree that the Investigator's at DSS did not do thier job, by not checking the child's body. Secondly, Over case load is an "excuse" he writes. DSS Contract calls for 15 cases a worker. Every DSS in the state is operating at an average of 23-25 cases a worker. Over case load is putting it very mildly and there is no help in site. I do not work in that field any longer but I will stick up for the workers in that field when I say that the motto is justifiable so at DSS, "Overworked and Underpaid".

The DSS seems to look the other way,I know they handed over a child who 1yr old to the mother who is a drug user and the granparents have the child now and still the mother gets to see the child, wheres the justice here,in this world ,you choose drugs or boyfriends over the child you carried, how in the world can this happen, the children are innocent,Parents or spouses should rot in Jail for all they do to thier innocent child,

I have to say it is a very sad story and this is not the only story out there, this one just happen to be on the news. Non the less still sad. That was very nice of that guy to offer to help that child. DSS needs foster parents who are willing to open there doors for show a child how it feels to be loved. Please read this one story out of Wilmington. There oldest is 41 and there are 9 kids and the youngest being only 4. If these people can do it and start all over anyone of us can.

Cut and copy the link and read there story!

I agree on alot of the comments here, But what about the DSS workers that just step in and take your baby or in this case babies? My daughter had a very hard and difficult birth of twin baby girls, both were born alittle over 2 months premature and both breech, At 3 days old we took pictures of the babies and you could see finger brusies on the ribs of both babies, my daughter nor any other family members got to handle or hold the babies for almost 2 weeks, yet when my daughter got to take her babies home and after about 3 weeks she had taken one of the babies to the hospital because of the crying, Which she thought was from being a colic baby, The DR's took x-rays of the babies ribs and found that they had been broken, Well guess what? My daughter is now being charged with not just 1 but 2 counts of child neglect, and there are alot of family that want to get the babies until this nightmare is over, but NO, the foster parents have been approved to adopt the babies already, my daughter was just served with (T.P.R.) papers and hasn't been to court yet, What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

First, there should be more people in the world like this man, and if he can adopt, please take them both, and wrap your arms around the both of them and love them with everything you have.
Second, why in the name of all things good, didn't the school call the police immediately? I know they did their job and called DSS, but that is not enough. Where my kids go to school, if they suspect anything, the police are called right then and there, especially if it was like what was happening to this boy.

Your story is hitting home, I know someone making legitamate complaints along with the family Dr. and here we are 4 years later with no record of the complaints of abuse. The mother knows someone in the system who is hideing all the complaints. Keeping the child in an abusive home. Your daughter did nothing wrong and lost her babies immediately, and here we are 4 years have gone by and this mother still has her child who is being brain washed and abused and no one beleives it. The hospital records show it all and yet no one is helping this poor child. I will never understand the system. It disgusts me. I can not beleive you are not being given custody of your grandchildren but yet they are trying to let strangers adopt them before they prove your daughters innoncence. You need to go seek the Grandparents rights you have rights to those children. I hope your daughter does not sign those papers. You all need to fight the system. I wish you the best of luck.

That story is so heartbreaking. Some parents don't deserve to have kids, they are a blessing from god. we are lucky to have them especially when some people cannot have any. I know what DSS is capable of doing and ignoring, I grew up in the system I was raped by a neighbour and when I told my foster mother she said nothing. Next day my social worker came and she said she was taking me out of that foster home because I was a trouble maker. I didn't get medical attention or nothing. They don't want to deal with reality of child abuse because they would have to go to court and that would take away from their time. They rather make a big deal out of easy cases so that they don't have to deal with much more complicated ones!

Also I like to say that DSS allows foster children to be abused, molested and neglected and they refuse to address that the foster parents are doing these things to them because they don't want lawsuits otherwise they would go bankrupt. They need to do away with DSS and find alternatives for dealing with issues with children especially when these things happen when they are young. They need to sponsor for more adoptions to people wanting children.

Whatrever! I feel so bad for the overworked, underpaid, self rightous DSS worker. That no excuse for not doing your job when human life is involved. How many children will die from abusers after DSS has decided they are fit parents. And how many children who are not abused will be taken away from their family. It seems to me that DSS has their priorities backwards.
I'm a nurse who has worked with a shortage of help for years. What if nurses used the shortage of help excuse to neglect thair duties while taken care of you or your family member? Whould you think that excuse is OK then. Think about that.

Hmmm!! I wonder if the State Board requires DSS workers to have education hours to renew their license? If so, the required # of hours of education should be increased. If not, they should. DSS is in dire need of extra training from what I have seen.

I agree. I too was abused while in a foster home. Thank god, I was finally allowed to go back to my mom. Have also seen a few times when DSS went after "easy cases" and took a child out of a home who was not abused. They seem to go after single moms who don't know how to put up a fight. It makes them feel powerful and rightous. They get a big lift to their self esteem I guess.
