Proud parents are always bragging how smart their kids are.
You never see a parent brag how dumb their kids are.
Like - how many of them walks out into traffic without looking, because their eyes are glued to the screen on their smart phone - smart!
Or - how many of them do not know how to ride a bicycle - because they didn't want to learn, because it looked too hard to them..
It's easy to play video games, because the video game gives them instant gratification.
Take the kid hunting or fishing on a day when the fish aren't biting and the game is no where to be seen and let them walk a couple of miles carrying a bunch of junk they aren't going to use anyways and see how many of them still wants to go hunting or fishing a couple of weeks later.

When I was a kid, about the most high tech thing we had was televisions and radios.
The TV was all we had - hence there wasn't any opportunity to take it apart and put it back together until after the time my dad went to get his television from the television repair shop, and he put it on the tailgate of the Blazer and it fell off while he drove over the railroad tracks.

I took it apart, put the tubes back into it. Put the yoke back on the picture tube and straightened out what was broke and managed to get a picture - although there was a bubble on the left side of the picture tube that looked like a lava lamp.

I was constantly taking radios apart, hooking up bigger speakers and trying to make the antenna longer. Some worked and some did not.
There were no computers - hence that type of technology did not come along until the time of the birth of my own children.

Even amateur radio was not an option when I was a kid, because my parents were poor and there were no REAL HAMS in my neighborhood that promoted amateur radio and got everyone involved that was interested.

Now the kids are not interested because they can do basically the same thing with a cell phone or a computer and social media.
