I used to know someone in Baraboo, home to the Ringling Bros. Museum. ALSO, a terrible plague of frogs being born deformed. They say the lower forms of animals start to show pollution problems first. My friend who lived there, she died of cancer about 4 years ago at age 57 or so. Just sayin'!

Sorry that you felt so unwanted by your parents...and I mean that.
A lot of people are miserable in marriage and for a wide variety of reasons, even couples who didn't have a "shotgun wedding". Relationships are great when their new, exciting and all consuming, but sooner or later, the blush wears off and real life takes over. Life is what happens while we're busy making other plans. And life's realities, hardships and even the mundane can take its toll on the best love affairs.
The same is true for having children. We have no idea what we're getting into when we first plan and then welcome those bundles of joy into the world. I raised two...they call it the hardest job you'll ever love, and that just begins to describe it. They don't come with instruction manuals, they have minds and wills of their own and what makes perfect sense with one child is completely ineffective on the next. The hardest part is when parents are at complete odds over how to deal with situations and problems...I've seen this destroy the soundest of relationships more times than I care to count.
Humans are humans and couples are couples. I'd be willing to bet that the odds are the same with same-sex couples as with any other couples. Nothing turns out as we imagined it would, ideals and reality are often night and day. Really wanting children doesn't guarantee success or happiness. It's a crap shoot.
Thanks! I didn't meant to paint as negative a picture of my parents as it did, either. There *were* good times when I was growing up, but there never was a day that by brother and I were not aware that my parents really didn't like each other and very much didn't want to be married to each other (and, by extension, didn't want us--we weren't stupid).

What you bring up about being a parent being the hardest job you'll ever love is absolutely true. So imagine how much fun it is for the kids when their parents didn't want the job to begin with and make close to zero effort at doing it well. There are a whole lot of kids out there in exactly the same situation my brother and I were raised in.

When the ring-wingers cry their eyes out about how horrible it is for a child being raised by a same-sex couple to be "denied" either a mother or a father because of it, I always think, well, I was raised by a mother and a father and I *STILL* feel that I was 'denied' BOTH parents because of societal norms forcing them to get married and pretend to be happy when they were clearly miserable.

When I see a child with parents that truly love each other and their child(ren), gay, straight or otherwise, and it shows, it mystifies me. I can't even begin to think of what that child must feel like knowing that his or parents really, REALLY care about them and each other. That's a feeling I never had as a child. My brother and I used to fantasize that we were adopted and hope that our "real" parents would show up someday and take us away. I spent my entire childhood waiting for one of my parents to leave the other (and us).(it actually didn't happen until I was 20 years old and long out of the house, but it did happen)

So all these idiots that fantasize that all a child needs is one penis-parent and one vagina-parent to have utter bliss and perfection and that any variation from that is fraught with doom REALLY piss me off big-time. I have 12 years of psychotherapy behind me recovering from the effects of the perfection-based childhood that they all seem to think is the be-all, end-all for happy, well-adjusted children. It's just a load of crap that they're trying to convince themselves is true. I would have taken a loving gay couple of either gender (or pretty much anyone else) over my own parents in a hot second.

And we had him quite boxed-in for years. Evil? Yep, he was. But creating a hot-bed of terrorism with his absence` wasn't the brightest move, either.

Then, for pity's sake, WHAT are you doing here, wallowing in it? That does NOT say much about you then, does it,if you believe it to be a lie, yet cannot leave it any more than a fly can tear himself away from a delightful picnic spread.
