Its pretty sad the extent some people will go. While I do no agree with the statements that were made, those statements are absolutely no excuse to justify making physical threats to a school and the children there. It seems that those that have made such threats have drawn enough attention that the state police are now posting an officer at the school. Many people have stated that a school should be a safe place for the children to be, and that the teacher involved, by making comments made school a hostile enviroment, how are threats of physical violence better?

I work with a few people like this, it used to enrage me but now I just ignore it.
The winner is this rabid and politically active, anti-choice, bible thumper whose son has paid for 2 abortions and her unmarried daughter went to visit some relatives in another state and had a "miscarriage".

It is very sick and those that do should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but they do not speak for all of us, far from it in fact. Yes, we have folks who cross lines that shouldn't even be approached on our side of the debate, you got them too, Ms Medley being a prime example of that. There is some seriously righteous anger on our side, we've had to swallow her kind of irrational hate with a freaking smile on our face for far too long. When you tap into that kind of anger you can expect some of it to be expressed inappropriately. It shouldn't happen to those who oppose us as it shouldn't be happening to us as the result of the inappropriate acting out coming from your side of the debate.

Thousands out of millions, while still far too many, is still an unrepresentative few. The overwhelming majority of us don't want to punish this woman, or the school, which actually did the RIGHT thing by making her want her own little prom for the bigots, we just want to send the message that she really shouldn't be foisted on vulnerable children if that is what she "thinks" and doesn't want to keep that kind of idiocy to herself.

Reality, both sides have people who behave in ways that are counter-productive at best and downright dangerous at worse. I have gotten some pretty fascinating threats posted to me here on Topix, everything from threats of God's wrath to what somebody thought they would like to do to me with a chainsaw. It is wrong no matter who does it and both sides need to do a better job at reigning in its own worst impulses, but we often don't, because we can understand where it comes from.
