Have the churches forgotten about the Sign of Jonah? I haven’t heard the churches around here teaching about the Sign of Jonah. Why is that?
If we’re going to teach our children about His Resurrection, we ought to teach the Truth according to the Word of God. Many people have told me that “it isn’t a big deal” and “the day Jesus was crucified doesn’t matter.” Is it really ok to ignore the Sign of Jonah?? Can we actually ignore a sign that Jesus actually named?!? Can we ignore THE sign that points to His Resurrection?!?
All my life I heard parents teaching their children and pastors teaching their congregation that Jesus died on “Good Friday” and rose on “Easter Sunday.” I first learned this in church. Is this true? What did Jesus teach us?
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall NO SIGN be given to it, BUT the SIGN OF THE PROPHET JONAS:
For as Jonas was THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the heart of the earth.
Jesus says that He’s going to be in the heart of the earth for THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS! The only sign Jesus gave to show who He is! He Resurrected!
The Scriptures say Jesus did all kinds of miracles, so many that there’s not enough books to record them. Yet, this sign is special; it’s given a name. He Resurrected!
Now upon the FIRST DAY of the week, VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Jesus had already up and left before Sunday morning before His followers came VERY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, the first day of the week. So, we can’t count Sunday DAY and Sunday NIGHT as part of the three days and three nights. Our Jesus was already up and gone.
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when IT WAS YET DARK, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
It was still dark by the time Mary Magdalene got there. So, Jesus didn’t resurrect at sunrise or after sunrise on Sunday; it was still dark out. Jesus resurrected BEFORE Sunday morning!
Jesus says THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS. If we count three WHOLE days and three WHOLE nights, we end up back by Wednesday.
Mary M. showed up before sunrise on Sunday and found Jesus was already gone. So, the three DAYS and three NIGHTS doesn’t start until Saturday at sunSET.
Counting backward, we get Saturday DAY and Saturday NIGHT, Friday DAY and Friday NIGHT, Thursday DAY and Thursday NIGHT. THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS! Where are we? Wednesday??
Why are we teaching the “Good Friday” lesson? According to Jesus’s THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS teaching, He couldn’t have been crucified on “Good Friday;” that would have only been ONE night, ONE day and a partial Sunday morning. That’s no where close to THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS according to the Sign on Jonah!
What’s going on? Why are we teaching the “Good Friday” lesson? Is there more to the story? What about John 19:14-15 with the “preparation of the Passover?” What about John 19:31 with the High Sabbath Day? And 1 Corinthians 5:7 with “Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:?”
Does anybody else care?
