A Black Woman Gets Beaten In Public And No One Helps

There are 866 comments on the www.womanist-musings.com story from Sep 16, 2009, titled A Black Woman Gets Beaten In Public And No One Helps. In it, www.womanist-musings.com reports that:

Imagine that you are going into a restaurant with your daughter. A man is on his way out and in the process nearly hits your little girl. You turn to him and politely ask him to excuse himself and he proceeds to punch you in the face. He delivers a brutal beating, while yelling racial slurs. Your daughter stands there helpless, watching you get beaten by this strange man and no one comes to your aid. This is the stuff of nightmares but unfortunately for Tasha Hill, who is a U.S. Army Reservist, it was no dream.

The entire incident was caught on the restaurantÂ’s video surveillance system, but Cracker Barrel officials and police declined to release the video Tuesday because itÂ’s part of an ongoing investigation.

If There was a SPIT, hope it shows up on the tape,...

i dont think it had anything to do to race as to why people only stood by and watched, i have watched court tv enough times to see that most of the time everyone stands by and watch, sometimes theres that one person that trys to intervene then thats when everyone else jumps in and help

Womanist-Musings has the oddest opinions I've ever seen. They addressed this issue but not the other. This woman DID NOT deserve to be beaten up and she unfortunately encountered an evil person. BUT NEVER put yourself in a position to be a victim.

Women - you know the rules, lock your doors, check around your car before you get in, etc. AND DO NOT confront a person like this. The article says the man "nearly" hit her little girl. Nearly. And this woman turns around to ask him to excuse himself???

If he was a decent person, he would of excused himself right away. You don't go up to a stranger and demand an "excuse me". Why would you purposely confront a rude and possible, like this guy, demented evil person? God, I would be doing it everyday. People are always running down the street or running out of doors banging into you.
And you have a child with you. Learn, use common sense, on how to protect yourself. Bite your tongue, save the attitude and save yourself from being attacked.

Well I'm pretty sure that most people were not attending the Cracker Barrel to see something like this happen. I'm sure people were there to have some food. I'm sure no one was watching out for something like this to go down. The story does say that lots of people stayed to help police. The surveillance video has been reviewed by police. It is definately horrific. These days it doesn't seem like we are safe to go anywhere. Very sad.

There is a lot of truth to what you say. But I have to say...as a mother I would have said something too. As a matter of fact, last night I took my 6 year old daughter to the fair. It had started to rain so we were leaving but we had to walk a little ways to our car. There was a lot of traffic but it was moving at the rate of a turtle. We had to walk down a street to get to where we parked and I just so happened to turn around and this car was coming down the street (opposite the way of the slow moving traffic) pretty fast considering all of the pedestrians and the fact that it was raining. When I saw this car I had to hurry and remove myself and my daughter from the street and when they drove up by us I called them b!tches every name in the book. It may be a risky thing to do sometimes and if I were by myself it might have been different. But when my child is involved it's a whole 'nother story. I'm sure any mother would have done the same thing.

I agree 100%. People frequent restaurants to go eat, not to go and become a hero. In today's world, it does not take much to set people off especially given the stress one incurs on a daily basis. This of course is no excuse for the man's bad behavior as him bumping into the child with out care of her personal space. But sometimes, we all have to pick and choose our fights, and assuming the little girl was not badly injured, we should come to expect that there are assholes we have to put up with as oppose to defending our character and move on to the next important thing that must be done.

Yes, the mother may have been right to demand an apology for her child (then again I wasn't there to see what went down); yet considering the man with whom she fought could be on drugs or whatever, that clearly puts him/her at an advantage that I'm unprepared to handle, and I'm not going to get into a fight and expect the cavalry to step in and come to my rescue.

We as blacks are in for a great awakening. Racism has never disappeared from the American scene. It is coming out all over the place and individually, we don't stand a chance. I wonder what the feminist movement is doing regarding this incident?

This is a great opportunity to look back and ask, what did the feminist movement do for blacks, male or female? Did the feminist movement, guarantee fair housing, fair employment practices, equal medical care, equal education or equal anything? No, all those benefits came from the civil rights movement. Whenever the feminist movement strike a blow for black women or women in general, they always cite some legislation that was inacted as a result of the civil rights movement. The only thing that I can think the feminist movement did was separate black men and black women. We fail to realize dividde, we all suffer. Believe it or not that was the intention of the FBI leaking out the information the MLK was a womanizer, to get black women to object to MLK being the leader of the SCLC and the civil rights movement. When that failed, MLK was assassinated. Very few people see the connection. Black women were the backbone of the civil rights movement. Selling dinners, cakes and pies, making all the schedules and it wasn't until black women left the managerial aspect and walked the streets with the men did JFK and RFK become disturbed at the water hoses and dog attacks. Within a year of the death of the civil rights movement, the powers that existed knew black women were the force in the civil rights movement and to negate that force, a white woman stood in D.C. burned her bra and declared she was STRONG, INDEPENDENT, INTELLIGENT AND DIDN'T NEED A MAN. I've tried to tell people all over America, this was no accident but a deliberately done just to get black women going in a different direction. When the civil rights movement died, black women being enegetic, enthusiastic and industrious needed to identify with something. Pharoah could not identify with black women when he tried to get two black women to kill little black newborn baby boys in Egypt (Exodus 1st chapter). Yes Egypt is in northern Africa. Being intelligent and relentless, pharoah got his own WHITE WOMAN to identify with BLACK WOMEN and walla, black men and black women have been at each others throat. Prior to that woman burning her bra in D.C., no body could say anything derogatory about a black man or a black woman and we'd be all over them. Now look at us, we're degrading each other. My people have no idea this was the FBI's plan from jump street. That is why the FBI leaked the information, to turn black women against a black man, MLK. The first goal of military warfare is to kill the leaders and the soldiers are in disarray. The same principle is found in the Bible, kill the shepard and the sheep will scatter. My dear brothers and sisters, a sheep is dumb and will follow anything even follow another sheep. Moses tried to liberate the slaves by killing an Egyptian that was beating slaves. The very same slaves that were beaten turned on Moses. Thus causing Moses to flee Egypt. It wasn't until the people were ready did they decide to obey Moses. My people will eventually feel the lash such as the woman beaten and when y'all get enough of being beaten, cheated and lied to, then y'all will find your senses and decide to unite again. My sisters, I strongly suggest you look up S.C.U.M. Manifesto. SCUM is the number one support group of the feminist movement. Look it up on your web browser and you will discover, the feminist movement isn't for you or black people. Mark my words, this thing was pharoah's plan from jump street. Exodus 1.

Mother of The Year Award goes to you. Why are are you cussing in front of your child? Do you have any common sense to know that your child will probably end up using those obscene jesters now, probably at school or at church? You do not have an argument, you are actually causing more damage by creating a person no one will like, one that will use profane language too much, one that probably will find it fit to be on welfare and live in section 8 housing. You should be ashamed of yourself. Its the little things that add up when parenting, you need to reflect to determine if you are apt to be a parent. Going out on a limb here, but I would bet you smoke, drink alcohol, and probably watch late night HBO programs right in front of your child.

I have never cussed in front of my children, and will not begin to either.

Why is this even an argument? I think everyone can agree the negros are absolute animals! The only thing the women should be used for is sex. Some of them have fine bodies, the big butt and huge t#ts (but their faces are ape like and most of them are fat slobs). And the men should only be used for labor. These are the only practical uses for these savages!

Just look at these responses. What a sad, miserable, pathetic group of people we have become. Not one individual response is empathetic. Do any of you give a damn? No, I guess not. A psychopathic personality don't care about any one except themself. As long as it isn't me. If we don't stop this in house fighting among ourselves, we're all going to go to the out house. Hell, y'all got me thinking about Jeremiah, the weeping prophet. Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet because, everytime God turned around Jeremiah was crying, kill these people. For most of his ministry, Jeremiah kept telling God to get rid of these black people, stop being merciful, kill these people. Stop giving them another chance, kill these black people. Stop loving these stiff necked, highheaded, stubborn people, just kill the whole race and wipe them off of the face of the earth. That's why they call him the weeping prophet. All of you are just weeping violence, bitterness, mean, nasty, adversity and not one individual gives a damn if we're all affected in the long run. We're already dead anyhow by the looks of these responses

With all due respect but you placed your child in harms way. What if something had happened? You had no idea who was in that car.

My best advice would be just to blow something off in people are extremely unpredictable and things can escalate very quickly. And you can undo what has already been done.

The woman in the story is very lucky that she wasn't hurt worse or that her child wasn't either. Some people are just rude somethimes and it's best to blow it off. And if an altercation like that happens, call 911 and let the Police deal with it whereas they are trained to de-escalate a situation as opposed to the average person attempting to play the hero unless one is reasonable assured that it won't spiral out of control and more people getting caught up in it.
