Great start to getting rid of the drugs that are consuming the very core of our young people. For those parents that missed it you need to get your head out of the sand. Drugs and alcohol does not discriminate.

GREAT MEETING ON DRUG AWARENESS IN MILAN SCHOOLS THURSDAY NIGHT.
Hats off to those who organized it and participated. Good turnout, but like one of the speakers said,"Alot of the parents that should be here are not".........such a shame. Wake up Milan parents, pay attention to what your kids are doing. I was impressed with all speakers, but Paul Thomas tells it like it is. Great job.

If you really want to do something about drugs in Milan, start drug testing the kids randomly instead of giving them plenty of warning to get clean before a drug test. Milan used to lead West Tenn in education but has become a joke. They kowtow to parents too much and bend the rules for every parent who complains. No warnings before the drug tests just like the real world does. That would fix a thing or two and open some eyes too. Some hoity toity parents would be mighty surprised which of the football players and cheerleaders would piss hot tomorrow morning.

What actions specifically are you in favor of for a child "piss[ing] hot" (btw when you curse it makes me take you less serious as an authority on this or any subject)? Are you in favor of the consequences being the same across the board regardless of what drugs are present in their system? After all, if the drug tests are random like you say they would still need to be done on a mon thru fri basis. This means a student could use as much cocaine, methamphetamines, prescription drugs, etc on a fri night and stand a much higher chance of passing than one who used or was even just around marijuana 3 weeks prior. Also you only mention football players and cheerleaders, are they the only students worthy of your concern over their use?
I say all this simply to make the point that there is more to the issue which you should consider. A blanket statement of "random test them all" simply isn't going to suffice here.

My thought would be to concentrate more emphasis on Education on drug use. Why wait to undergo a drug test to determine if drugs are present, at that point a habit is involved. Then we move along to rehab.
Hit it hard in the gut from the start. Such as bring in the convicted convicts presently in prison to give there view point along with a more hard core jail sentence. Or take the kid's on a field trip to prison.
Another detriment would be if Tenn. made pseudoephedrine (meth ingredient) prescription use only. Some say that is a inconvenience, but so is all the fallout that follows drug use.
Court system seriously needs to institute harsher jail penalty's. At the least 25 years first offense cooking meth, fine along with confiscation of all assets to offset fines, cleanup and prosecution.
If the US would start handing out heavy jail sentence, consumption and demand would subside, not entirely disappear but a dramatic double digit drop would occur.
Summary: Start with education, and if you STILL do not get the message then the state will find you a new home with a roommate called your "cellie" for the next 25 years plus.

It takes a community to raise our kids. Milan is losing and that is a fact. The demise of our beautiful loving and kind town is imminent if we don't take it back and soon. Time is not on our side.
