Teens Get Cash to Not Get Pregnant

Full story: MomLogic

Fox News : A dollar a day keeps the babies away. That's the incentive behind College Bound Sisters, a program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro that aims to keep 12- to 18-year-old girls in school and baby-free. Girls in the program attend 90-minute meetings every week at which they receive lessons in abstinence and the use of ...

I'm 70 years old, and I had a hysterectomy years ago. Will someone who has more money to waste please pay me not to get pregnant? Makes me think of the old joke that went around when I was young. It still holds true. Aspirin works just fine for birth control. Simply teach the girls to take one pill and HOLD IT BETWEEN THEIR KNEES. Why do we need to pay these girls not to get pregnant? Are they so stupid that they don't know how to prevent getting that way? This was obviously thought up by another liberal idiot who knows how to waste money and time.

Perhaps you've not noticed lately, but there are just as many white girls having babies they can't support. Welfare helps them, too. And, no, I'm not black; you didn't offend me with your comment. I simply know quite a few sorry people of all colors who'd rather spend their money on anything they want while letting the government take care of their kids.

Jimmy, you are absolutely right. It seems there is always someone all too willing to turn any issue into a racial issue. This issue had nothing to do with race. The only reason I mentioned that I am not black is because I did not want Nipsy, the person to whom I replied, to claim that I'd responded to her/his comment simply because I was black like the race she/he had slurred in the comment. I agree with you. The Goldsboro fiasco had nothing at all to do with the race of the people involved.

How about rather than wasting taxpayer money on yet another useless welfare program, we discipline the kids, we teach them right from wrong.

Wow this is so stupid. well I am 19 and can't have kids lets pay me. what happen to parents talkin to the kids or this thing called dicipline? or is the real question what happen to parents? It should not be the school's responsibility in the first place to teach right and wrong it's the parents or maybe it just me.

Yet again people comment without getting the facts. This article is about the organization College Bound Sisters. Look at their website, and tell me that this isn't yet another welfare handout for blacks.

#1 - the program teaches them skills to help them graduate from high school & go on to college

#2 - the money is put into an interest bearing account that they get only upon completion of the program & given as a scholarship to go to college

#3 - It is NOT a welfare program. It's about empowerment & equipping them to make better choices... I dare say many adults could benefit from it.

This is not a school program. It is a nonprofit agency, housed on UNCG's campus. Just like any other bonafide nonprofit, they can apply for funding and recieve support.

Yep, it's welfare. Take tax dollars from the working class and give it as an incentive to not get pregnant. Ridiculous. Why should they have any less self control than anyone else?

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.. well, you know what they say. Why should these kids need special skills to help them graduate from high school? Why aren't they smart enough to know what any average, normal kid knows, that if you study, try hard, and save money you will graduate and can go on to college? Why aren't they smart enough to make these choices on their own? Why should they be paid money for doing what they should do in the first place? And, no matter what you call it, unless THEY put the money into the account to start with, it is welfare. The program quacks, my dear. It quacks quite loudly. It teaches them nothing but the same old belief that if you sit back, do nothing, and simply hold out your hand, some liberal will drop money into it. The program and what it does insinuates.. no, it blatently says... these kids are too stupid to succeed without the help of this program. Without demanding that kids learn to succeed without always expecting someone or some government program to give them a handout at someone else's expense, we are simply raising a society that has learned to depend on others to take care of them. I raised my children, and I paid for their educations. I am sick and tired of constantly paying to raise someone else's child, someone who has learned, with the help of programs such as this, that he can sit on his behind and do nothing except hold out his hand, a hand that continues to grow larger by the day. He has learned that he can do this because someone will come right along and drop whatever he needs right into his hand. You're deluding yourself if you think giving handouts to these kids is helping them. They will never learn to be responsible for their own lives. Even those who rehabilitate wild animals that have been hurt know that they cannot handfeed those animals or give them shelter for so long because the animals will lose their ability to take care of themselves; they will not be able to survive in the wild any longer. Even our parks and other places post signs advising people not to feed the animals for this very reason. It is time to stop enabling these kids and those others who accept welfare. If you and others who believe as you do don't stop, they will never learn to be independent, productive citizens. Call it what you will, but your program is welfare. It helps no one except those who earn their own salaries by running the program.

I have to applaud you in your response! Who cares the race of the girls that this program is giving money to? I don't care, and I am white. My point is... WHY must we pay girls to act like young ladies in this day and age? WHY should we pay them to show show values and morals? WHY are the parents not teaching them to love and appreciate themselves and to further themselves so that they can go on in life and succeed and graduate college and not have to sit on government assistance because they were idiots as teenagers and let themselves get pregnant?

Perhaps I was raised by a different type of parents than most of these young girls are raised by today, but my parents didnt have to pay nor bribe me in any way NOT to get pregnant. I was able to look around and see that if I was going to succeed in life, I would have to do it without being a teenage mother of one or two or more kids!*Shakes head in shame* What on earth is this world coming to when we have to offer to pay girls to do the right thing and not get pregnant? What will be next? Having to pay them to not have sex and get VD? Sheesh I am embarassed for the college's that are allowing this group to be part of their schools!

And I applaud you, as well. Thank you for adding your eloquently expressed and truthful comment. No one should ever receive pay to do what is right, and this program and others like it are a major reason society keeps getting lazier and more dependent on others. I listen to teenagers whine every day when they don't get their way. I hear them complain that they have 10 minutes of homework to complete at night. I hear them get angry because they receive a C or lower grade on a project that is completed no better than if a 4-year old had done the work, and I hear them ask all too often, "What are you going to give us if all of us pass our tests?" They wouldn't know the satisfaction of simply being smart enough to earn that 100 on their own resources if it bit them where they sit. These girls who are being paid with someone else's money not to get pregnant are being treated as if they are too stupid to succeed without the help of the misguided bleeding hearts who thought up this idiotic program, and they will never learn to be successful on their own. It's a shame. I was so very glad to read your comments and know that at least someone else feels as I do. Thank you for your post. Your two children are very lucky to have you for their mother. And I'll just bet that, no matter what their ages, they're more independent right now than these girls reciving money not to get pregnant will ever be.

When am I going to get my check for not speeding, stealing, robbing or murdering?
When am I going to get my money for doing what I'm supposed to do? Maybe that is the problem with our society. The I don't do nothin' less I get paid concept.
Maybe we should reinforce little things like The
Ten Commandments. Oh,wait! Everyone's trying to get rid of those they're not in keeping with the criminal liberal lamestream teachings.

Ia'lla aketa aa iecea foa hatta ctiona. Erya ellwa aidsa yma riendfa.:-) Jimmy in Lexington, I simply changed what you said to Pig Latin. I agree with you about what Carthoswalker said. He has written some of the most intelligent posts I've read.(Hope he doesn't get mad with me because I used your reply to teach you Pig Latin.):-) And for goodness sake, please know that I really do not think this Pig Latin childishness is actually a second language. I simply wanted to make a point that it is as easy to read as the Spanish some posters were using.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Scorpio

Let the past stay in the past for now. Even though you may have fond memories of intense experiences, the Virgo Moon sees to it that you have virtually no desire to go there again just yet. This is your opportunity to show others what you can do in a more civilised environment. Don't try to shout down someone who is rude enough to interrupt. As unlikely as it may seem, the softest voice has the biggest chance of being heard today.
