Do you realize this is a discussion forum to discuss news topics??? Why don't you look in the newspaper if you need a place to rent. It never fails to amaze me how stupid some people are.

Excellent question!
You know, you people seem to judge on the spot without knowing who you are making comments to. You do realize that all public libraries have computers for anyone to use. Soooo, maybe instead of snap judgements, you should use your head and not your pithy mouths.

Funny how all you homeless people have internet connections. Please keep low income housing out of my neighborhood. I made a life choice to not have 6 kids in 4 years, work, and pay more to live where I do. That being said. For all you woman with who are expecting or have small children, check out chicks n crisis. They do a great job of helping woman out who are in need. You can google them on your laptops in your homeless shelters.
You are cruel and obnoxiece. There are alot of homeless people out there me being one of them. And I go to the Library to try and find housing and jobs. So keep your comments to yourself

I would like to know just how long the County will provide housing and funding to an individual. I know of one person, who has been living in the "County Housing" in Elk Grove for eight (8) years. Is there no criteria set for this person to advance or will they be a lifetime dependant?

This is an OPINION FORUM not the CLASSIFIEDS! If they are truly "poor" then that is exactly what it means....poor people do not have access to anything....because they are POOR. These are the indigent looking for low income housing on a BLOG!
What ever happened to people helping people? There might be a person blogging with an actual beating heart(unlike meangene) who wants to help those people. If you dont like what you're reading on these blogs...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! This blog is linked in with low-income housing web sites jerk

The Section 8 program is not ran properly.
For example, I know of one couple who should have had their Section 8 cancelled ten years ago when their child turned eighteen.
Since this did not happen, the husband and wife still reside in the 3 bedroom, 2 bath home.
I believe a family with children should be first on the list of affordable housing, not a couple nearing retirement age whom are able-bodied and can hold down a full-time job.

I have tried and tried since 1989 to get Section 8 when I was a single parent raising 3 children. I have always been sick with one thing or another my whole life.19 surgerys. Couldn't keep a job do to always being sick. Now here I am a grandmother and having to live with my children due to the cost of living and only getting SSI. Everytime I try to get better I get worse. I have been vomiting for 10 months everyday, have lost 96 pounds and still not getting better. My daughter is also a single mother of 3 works hard and still we need help. Can somebody please help us. We would be greatly appreciated. God Bless

We are disabled grandparents raising our 8 year old grandson. We have looked and tryed every year to find out where and when to apply for low income housing, section eight or any assistance with rent we could find. We are both on SSI and we get state aid for our grandson but that is only 568.00 + 280.00 in food stamps. Our rent is $695.00 and electric and other bills eat up another 350.00 of that and we are completely broke by the 3rd week and sometimes by the 2nd week. It is hard for us because we gave up our janitorial business and $5,000.00 every month from doing very little work so we had to adjust our way of living. We now meet people that are poor, like we are and we hear about section eight and how they only pay 30 dollars a month and this one girl we met told us that she gets a check for living there,$30.00 every month just for living there. Where and when can we sign up for something like this? We can not work and have no source of income other than what we get from SSI and AFDC for our grandson. I can not understand how some of these people get assistance because they drive nice cars, have nice things and have money to burn apparently so, what gives? Is there something you have to know or do to get in with someone or what? We need it and though we don't choose this we are in a situation that requires us to ask for help.

If you and your husband are elderly and both drawing SSI you two should be getting about $900/month apiece PLUS an extra $300 apiece (if you get social security). Add in your son's welfare which should be only $340 (not $568, which is the grant for 2 minor dependants). Two disabled elders and a dependent child: you are grossing about $2,100 monthly! You say you live in a one bedroom? Where? In El Dorado Hills????? Your rent is only $695. No excuse to be broke unless you'ew mismanaging your monies! That is PLENTY enough to even pay a small mortgage, bills, entertainment and even medication! Hell, you get food stamps! I know your story all too well, because for a couple of years before I went back to work and before my daughter no longer needed me in the home, we lived off of her SSI check and my welfare check. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s when she was a baby and toddler, she was getting about $600 on SSI and I was getting $295 on AFDC and 140 in food stamps. With about $900 to work with, I paid $575 in rent (in a nice 2 bedroom apartment-home with all amenities (yard, central air, laundry hook-up, dishwasher, fireplace, etc.......$50 on electric........$40 on phone.....$50 a month on baby clothes (when needed).......$40 a month on diapers/wipes/ointments/mdicin es......$20 a month on cleaning supplies and still had enough to catch the bus and or pay for rides.....PLUS $50 a month on entertainment like movies/Chuck E Cheese's.......carnivals...... .PLUS an extra $30-$40 if I wanted to spoil myself like nails, eyebrows or a nice outfit and a delivery pizza! YOU just have to learn to stay on a tight budget until you can do better. THERE'S NO EXCUSE!! I hope you seek a financial advisor.

I don't mean to judge you, but if I made it on a fixed income with a disabled child, any one can! We stayed looking nice because baby clothes are cheap and I styled my own hair and own long nails instead of going to a salon dishing out hundreds of dollars! Good luck with your son :)

I've been wanting to sign up for low income waiting list to move out with my husband and two sons so it'll be much easier for us than living with our in laws which making it harder for us and more bills to pay especially when knowing we just barely had two sons he's not working we both going to school but having to pay for all the utilities and rent is too much. When will you let me know when, where and how and sacramento that will be very helpful thank you

I agree with you, people who are doing well financially of course are going to judge and be cruel, because they are actually the ones who have the free ride... You see I have never been in disability or Sec 8 until now and I worked at Intel/Cisco and Apple computer and hung out with all the jerk off mucky mucks and U know what? They destroyed my health and my life. And I am now struggling and still remain very talented but I am poor. So all of you snotty jerks, get a life, because it could happen to you suddenely out of the blue you could lose your health and have no way out and become disabled. I have met people who were once rich and lost everything because of health, so be careful what you say to others, it may happen to YOU and then you will see the other side! Oh and I have no kids and no husband it is just me, so no I am not creating kids to live off the system. The system sucks it has helped me somewhat, but sec 8 does not mean druggy losers, some are but there are homeless people out there who were once very successful, it just happens right before your eyes, and most things are out of our control and if you do not believe me that is your choice I could care less. So all you abusive people out there that judge the poor YOU get a life and get a brain, I have worked with PH'D grads from Stanford at Intel that are complete idiots and are abusive that need permanent therapy to learn how to be happy and treat others. I also know one of the originators of Apple Computer from way back in the day, and the man is filthy rich, miserable, unhealthy and selfish and greedy and insecure, so that speaks alot right there, no more words for me, I am outty!

This is written especially for you, insecure idiot. Nice comment though, speaks well for your sad ability to hurt others to build yourself up because you are nodda...nothing, piece of crap.
No matter how much $$$ a person has, it is in how they treat others that matters period!

I am fully disabled, I have epilepsy, Full every thing and yes I have to wait to. I waited 5 years at my current place that is managed by AIG, having what I have keeps you out of the work zones, so the job sites voted me fully disabled, I also applyed 3 times in that time period, the managers will through out your papper work 3 to 6 months after you apply, even when you check on your files, I would have a ssi loyar sighn you up for house when he or she is running your ssi aplication and yes alays have what you want take what you have to have then when what you want is open in the area you like you can get, and always have more waiting list open, I am on 3 low income housing list right now, and I past two up, I want to find a place in new sacramento and or sandeago downtown

I wish you all the best. But, during all this time waiting, you should of also applied through other counties. Not, waiting for SHRA. If you have not been contacted within 2 years, you are probably not eligible. Disabled, aged, go to the top of the list in a short amount of time. I just checked the SHRA website, and I see no open lists to apply for. I can't read this article, cause the link does not work.
