All this talk about children wearing warm coats to school brings a picture in my mind of Ralphie's little brother in A Christmas Story.

Personally? After reading a majority of these comments... I must say people who post on here are rather ignorant. Yes, children these days are 'pampered' more than they were forty years ago. That's a little thing we call change. From the looks of it, the people posting here could have used a few extra years in a nice Highschool themselves, maybe even a college?(;

Someone said it earlier, today's kids are pampered and spoiled.....this is so true. On my way to work one morning, the school bus literally stops at every other house to pick a kid up in the morning. I measured it one morning, the bus stopped a total of 7 times in a half mile....really!!? The kids should gather at a public/central location and catch the bus. Don't even get me started on the women in their 20s and 30s in their robes who slowly walk their kids out in the morning (no job....)and slowly carelessly mosey back into the house! Sigh, this country of entitlements and pampering is doomed...

Send these spoiled brats to school! Cold or hot, parents will complain, not because their kid is too cold but because they have to drag their lazy assess out of bed to prepare them for the weather. Suck it up! No wonder our kids are failing and dropping out of school.

Hi I'm a high schooler and it has been close to 4-6 degrees outside and I go to school but I would worry about my little brother who gets sick easily because he has a weak immune system. I know kids today are pampered but not every kid is. My father divorced my mom and we lost everything. I never cared about TV or Vodeo games and now I'm spoiled because I'd like to wait to go to school for the temperature to come up? I would rather we have school from 8-6 or closer to France's schedule for school. Yet I'm pampered and spoiled because out of the so called luxuries I have one is considered pampered for wanting to be warm. I don't even have enough money to go and get clothes from good will now. Yet I'm pampered. Most kids I know could dress better for the weather but there not as spoiled as people put it. Yes we're all better off now but kids now aren't as hardy as they used to be and when I have to wait for a bus for 15 minutes (10 minute walk to bus and 3 minute change so I could be outside from 12-18 min.) then when I get to school I have to wait for them to open the doors. Which is at 7:30 here and we get there at about 7:10-7:25. So anywhere from 17-38 min. In freezing temperature. Yet I'm spoiled for wanting to wait and be able to avoid all that time in the cold and I'm spoiled because I want my little brother to be able to come home without getting sick with a cold. There middle school has almost the exact same schedule as us high schoolers yet were pampered.

No wonder our kids are failing and dropping out of school. We aren't brats... Okay, no, some are. Yes parents are lazy but it isn't why kids drop out and fail. We need to go to school longer each day and longer throughout the year. And if you read my comment it is way to long to be out in the cold. The reason we fail or drop out is because kids need to get involved in activities all around. Also we need to get inspired for the job we want. No kid is prepared anymore that's the problem
