This is a good idea. Now, let's get the teachers in the schools to properly monitor the students while they're using the district computers.

just a thought....how are you going to have 1 teacher monitor 30 computers simultaneously. Each students internet history is monitored and they do catch infractions but it is so easy for a student to "close" one window on the desktop and bring up a legitimate one. The teacher would have to be standing right behind the kid.

Also, this is another case of something that should be taught by parents or guardians being taught in school. It would be great parent/child communication but I guess because a lot (not all) parents are more interested in being buddy buddy with their kids, it wouldn't work. Don't know what I mean about buddy buddy, think how many parents give their kids booze or cigarettes or let boyfriend or girlfriend stay overnight with no supervision. Maybe thats why a fair number of young people turn out the way they do.

This is a violation of their free speech rights. This is not China. If they want to surf porn, they have the right. If this is what they learn at home, put the fault where it lies and not on the teachers. There used to be a time when teachers taught and not babysat. If you are that concerned, put a filter up and let the teachers teach.

I say just have the parents pay more attention to their children, instead of allowing them in front of a computer unsupervised to what ever they will. More and more we are becoming the other persons babysitter. Some suggestions for you parents who just don't get it yet. Some suggestions that really work. Spending time with your child away from the computer, television, video games, cell phones. Visit a zoo, museum, hiking. Have the child volunteer at a hospital, nursing home. Maybe even just go outside and play with your child, football, baseball. Try being a parent instead of expecting the world to do this for you.

one who knows,

They are not parents, they are breeders.

Our society has become the human version of the table-meat industry.

Keep the breeders fat, happy, stupid and enslaved primarily through worthless materialism and endless ever increasing debt. Snatch the product of their breeding at the earliest possible age for programing in The System, and repeat process.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13

Satan is having a field day.

Thanks for some of the tips on Internet safety and warnings about predators.

I'd love to hear your comments on some blog posts I published a while back about cyberbullying and online predators:

1. Safety Tips for Parents: http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2008/03/25/a...
2. Online Predators: http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2008/04/03/p...

Filtering is a great tool, but it's not the only kind of software out there. Have you ever heard of accountability software? Accountability software is specifically for adults who want to guard where they go online without any blocking or filtering. Combined with filtering, it's a great Internet safety solution for the whole family. If you want more info about it check out my post “Is Filtering All There Is?”- http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2008/06/12/i...

Your article makes many good points about the value of parental control software software. My wife and I installed a program called Spector Pro on our daughter’s computer and it has allowed us to monitor her internet activity discreetly and easily. It also allows us to block her access to inappropriate web sites as allowing us to restrict the times of day she uses the internet.

I had heard of keyloggers before but I had no idea software like this could include so many features. The Spector Pro program records all the keystrokes, chats, emails and it even takes snap shots of the screen that I can play back like a VCR. It allows me to see everything that has been on the computer screen.

We originally purchased the program because we were concerned about her use of MySpace and Facebook. One of the main reasons we chose Spector Pro was because it has separate recording features for these sites. I can see all the MySpace and Facebook information separately; including login information, profiles she is viewing and who is viewing her; it even lets me when she posts to her blog or posts pictures.

This program has been a real life saver. It not only allowed us to correct some issues we were concerned with; but it now gives us the piece of mind that comes from knowing EXACTLY what she is doing online.

I can’t recommend it highly enough; in fact my wife is a school teacher and recommends this program to many of her students’ parents. Just Google Spector Pro and check out their web site. You will see what I mean.
