Broward weighs how to handle double-dipping at Weston school

There are 32 comments on the articles.sun-sentinel.com story from Jun 22, 2013, titled Broward weighs how to handle double-dipping at Weston school. In it, articles.sun-sentinel.com reports that:

The Broward County school district is contemplating what to do with 13 teachers in Weston after an internal audit found they were being paid to run after-school clubs while still on the clock.

But Charlotte Greenbarg, of the audit committee, was dissatisfied. "That response doesn't tell me there's an understanding of the seriousness of the situation," she said. "This is crucial. We have to make sure it doesn't happen again." Greenbarg also wondered whether teachers would be required to pay back their extra money. A call to the Broward Teachers Union was not returned.

I am sick, we believed we helped the kids we gave our money to help PTA and they stole the money. OUR own teachers, principal and PTA. Can we get the State Attorney involved? I want to press charges. Suzzy, Julie, Nicole, Laine, what are they saying now? and Devaughn send an email blast that EVERYTHING was clear and no findings?? we have to get her out of the school, who do we contact? superintendent, school board or the state attorney!

I hope she has some decency and resigns. She is evil, how can someone do so much damage, and look us in the eyes and lie. It is disgusting what she has done to MBE. She should do the right thing now and leave MBE.

How sad they lied to all of us but they hurt the children. I hope that Mrs. Devaughn gets what she deserves and also the whole PTA should be investigated. They stole so much money from us, but most of all they stole our TRUST.

Funny that nobody comments anymore, why because finally they see the truth. It took a few people to have the courage to be honest, to be humiliated, but to state the truth.

I find it funny, almost every school in Weston offers a type of FCAT after school camp where the teachers work with their students as well as other students hoping to help struggling students. They get paid for them and some even start at 2 p.m. like Manatee Bay yet I don't see the news trucks parked outside their schools or blogs accusing the teachers and principal of being corrupt. Why might that be?

I will tell you why, Last year when they had the FCAT camp at Manatee Bay it was Tequesta that came to Manatee Bay to tutor the children, don't know how long you have been at Manatee Bay, But if you remember Donna would NOT start FCAT until 3;00p here Robin McClain with Mrs Devaughn had a business inside of a school that they profit from the children.

I truly think that everyone should stop posting on these blogs until you know the truth. Are you all believing that now that you've read some newspaper articles that everything you're hearing is true? Really? I haven't seen where any of the teachers - who are being singled out - have been questioned by the School Board or Sun-Sentinel writer. Why hasn't that happened? Stop being hurtful to those of us who have ALWAYS put the children first and who have not done anything wrong. "Team of corrupt teachers"? We should lose our licenses? Wow. If you only knew the caliber of the teachers you are speaking of you may not be so quick to judge. If you lose "the 13", it would be a huge hit to the school and a massive loss to the students. We aren't going anywhere.

Unfortunately you guys are in a bad situation thanks to your principal. I saw the documents and I can tell you that your principal blamed everything on you guys. I know for a fact that you guys are very good teachers and I do know you guys because my two boys went to Manatee Bay Joshua and Justin. They did have few of the 13 teachers, thank God we left a year after she came to the school. I also talk with few teachers and they told me that they could not talk and that they would not speak out because she would fire you right away. I wish you luck and the best thing you can do is reach out to the District and state the truth.

Actually, Tequesta DID NOT tutor any of the students AT ALL. It was done by teachers at the school. Please, if you are going to say things on here be sure they are the truth. Everglades does their FCAT camps just like it is done at the Bay. Actually MOST schools start their FCAT camps at 2:00 and they keep logs of their time that they make up (for example, while teachers wait for parents to pick up their kids-- long after the 4:00 pick up time). They are many other Broward schools who do their FCAT camps in the morning from 7-8, they also make up the 30 minutes and keep a log of their time.
Believe me when I tell you Robin McClain HAS NEVER done anything to "profit from the children". She is a full time teacher who manages to run ALL partner in education events, runs first in math at our school and coordinated FCAT camps. Before you accuse her why don't you take all the time she volunteers and find someone else who would be willing to give so much of herself so selflessly. Believe me, if Robin McClain thought someone was stealing from the school and from the kids she would be one of the first people to stand up.
Let me ask you, how can you possibly come on here and bash someone who volunteers so much of her time?
Read the audit. Mrs Devaughn had to provide an explanation as to how the time was being made up. She did that. Not one of these "13 teachers" were questioned by SunSentinel or the school board. This is, once again, someone trying to create something out of nothing. I'm not sure if you know the teachers at Manatee Bay but I can guarantee you that the teachers would also be the first to stand up and speak out if they thought ANYONE was stealing from the school or the kids.

I Feel sorry for you, for been in denial, but the saddest thing of everything is that you defend Mrs. Devaughn when she put you guys under the bus.

Please go on line and read Mrs. Devaughn's response:
"she will remind the teachers that they cannot tutor their own students and that they have to log in the time", it is public record. I feel so sorry for the teachers that believed her

Shocking, I cant believe it. I paid for the FCAT camps, so it was true what the other parents said. She is corrupt now I wonder if it is true about the science FCAT cheating? since the school police covered it up
It is realů Devaughn and her team just turned a blind eye to this offence. Members of Broward County School Board were also informed.
