As the man who led our school district as high school principal for 13 years, Ron Malone held a special place of trust, authority, and influence in our community. How he chose to use those gifts is revealed in the public records reports of his professional peer reviewers, his superiors, and his own public pronouncements.
It is not as golden as you have been led to believe.
DECEMBER 2010 - Warren County Educational Service Center audit
report on SHS program of studies RECOMMENDATIONS page 13:
"Increase the number of students taking the HIGH SCHOOLS THAT WORKS recommended curriculum/Ohio Core each year by at least 25 percent.
"Increase the percentage of students taking college preparatory courses. Eliminate any course offerings below the college preparatory level."
JANUARY 2012 - Superintendent Gene Lolli's annual performance evaluation of Mr. Malone notes:
"Mr. Malone does demonstrate the ability to affect change, but sometimes very reluctantly. It sometimes takes numerous requests by Superintendent before changes are implemented."
Mr. Malone needs to improve on getting request goals to the Superintendent in a timely fashion. Examples include: Requested schedule of events for delayed start at the beginning of the year, at semester, and last week and have not yet received. Also requested times and dates of all staff meetings and quarterly updates on the High Schools That Work per 2011-2012 job targets.
JANUARY 2013 - Warren County Educational Service Center audit report on SHS program of studies page 10:
"SHS still offers GENERAL LEVEL CLASSES (Algebra 1A and 1B, physical science, US History, and World History). Thus, not all students experience a college preparatory curriculum. Documents provided to the Technical Assistance Visiting (TAV Team indicate that contrary to the High Schools That Works philosophy, SHS believes that offering LOW-LEVEL COURSES is in the best interest of students. This belief, however, WAS NOT SUBSTANTIATED by research or data."
2013 US NEWS ranking of high schools in Ohio ranks King’s #23, Mason #35, Bellbrook#37, Brookville #41, Lebanon #48, Centerville #49, Waynesville #53, Monroe #90 and , and finally Springboro #97.
Given our district’s stated 40% gifted population, the fact that only 20% are on track to take A/P classes in high school, our district is severely underperforming compared to those districts around us in my opinion.

Misallocation of district and taxpayer resources: 34 out of 77 elective classes at the high school had less than 20 students, more than a few had multiple classes.
IE: Children’s Literature, 2 classes – 27 total students, Entrepreneurship, 2 classes – 20 total students, etc.
My conclusion is that Mr. Malone ran this high school like a union shop, making up classes with scant demand to ensure employment for those whose skills were not in demand. This tactic robbed resources from areas of greater need in the district. Those who suffered the most were the gifted and those in need of early intervention.

Your conclusion is flawed, or at least it is according to a MAJORITY of the voters last election.
You know what you need to teach gifted and 'in need' kids? TEACHERS and one on one at that. Unfortunately under the "chilren first" budgeting we cut some of those and others left seeing the writing on the wall. This helps explain why we have such low per-pupil spending. Children's first budgeting seems to be leaving some of the children behind.
As far as Dr. Malone, during his tenure as principal we actually INCREASED the number of AP classes (as was stated by our principal at one of the last board meetings). How is that a bad thing?

Now that we got that straight, can you clear up other questions?
How was the $400,000 Spent by the Springboro Boosters; and Why is the
Athletic Director demanding that a quarter of a million dollars must be "Advanced"
to pay bills from the Taxpayers (including ME) General Fund? If the Springboro
Boosters had $400,000, then why were unpaid bills accumulated as a result of
poor financial handling? Why did the Boosters continue Spending Money that
they did not have, and then come to the board room and demand that Taxpayers
pick up their bills, OR else Pay to Play fees would be increased? Why the same

I did not move to this school district in order to emotionally blackmail and bully my neighbors into supporting my child's Teacher in the manner, in which our SEA demands (Or else they will walk out on our students).

True! All these good blessings AND the good common sense of Strongly Believing
that "Over Taxing the Taxpayers is Wrong" is my Only Motive for questioning the

Come Grow With Us ..... in the direction of balance!
Our long-term goals should reflect our highest aspirations--goals that we can reach only if we stretch ourselves, do the best we can, and be the best that we can be!
Balance can be seen on scales, in sports and on spreadsheets. There are times when balance is easy to see and define. There are times when we have to work to achieve balance. For example , in our homes we try to find a perfect balance between work and family. Although we can define the ideal, we rarely meet it.
Our Springboro BOE representatives are elected to balance the interests of students, parents, taxpayers, and employees. Many school boards lack balance because they are comprised of people with more allegiance to maintaining a specific establishment than to the greater cause.
In Springboro, balance has been restored. With a new administrative team, the Springboro school district has adopted a mission to "accelerate student achievement and support qualified staff with a balanced budget." These are not empty words: they summarize actions. Together, we have achieved a balanced budget. We are on the right course, but it has not been easy.
With Educate Springboro, we brought changes that forced many to rethink long-held beliefs. Anytime the status quo changes, there is resistance. Panicked petitions and hysterical headlines have made things "feel" out of balance. Now, we have elected two retired educators as board representatives, who want to return to the failed practices of the past--which only "FELT" balanced.
However, today we can see just how far out of balance we actually were under the previous leadership. Some of the imbalances of the past include:
Capping high school class sizes in the 20s, while other grades who most need teacher attention, had larger class sizes (often up to 30).
Teaching the majority to meet only the proficient standard; while our district receives a "D" n gifted education and a "C" for our more challenged, lowest 20%.
Ignoring the changing curriculum and testing standards for students.
Charging higher pay-to-play and school fees than were necessary.
Failing to plan for technology in our classrooms and then spending resources on wireless technology that was inadequate and required replacement.
Ignoring recommendations to improve the rigor of our high school academic programs by failing to promote college credit options for our students.
Reacting to circumstances and spending more than budgeted, instead of planning to invest and keeping up our buildings, grounds and bus fleet.
Assuming the only solution was higher taxes and hoping for a NEW levy to pass.
These are symptoms of the status quo controlling a school district that lost its balance.
If there was any balance at all in the past, it was an eye for an eye. As this community said
"NO" to five new money levies, district leaders failed to find levy alternatives. The status quo threatened the community with cuts. Thankfully, many of those leaders have left;
some have retired, including Ron Malone, who has been a SHS principal for the past thirteen years; but has now made good on his March 2012 Vote for Revenge protest against our school district's fresh new ideas within the framework of our Children's First Budget reform-minded philosophy. This year's record is easy to defend because it consistently demonstrates investing in Children First. From replacing the District's aging computers, buses, to implementing new curriculum and raising expectations with new standards testing -- WE HAVE PROGRESSED.
Stay Alert Voters! While we are optimistic that retired educator, Ron Malone, has the ability as newly elected BOE member, to rise to the challenges that face our children's 21st century education; based on his True History of poor job performances in the PAST, can
we TRUST Ron Malone to do what's right for our school children and community?

Why does the Springboro Athletics Booster Association IGNORE the school
district's Policy and By-laws which govern the working arrangement between
the School Board (representing ALL Springboro Families) and the Booster
Association (representing Springboro Families/Students who play sports?)

You need to get with the program. The $400,000 in question wasn't "spent" by the Boosters on this district's various athletic programs. The $400,000 in question disappeared into the back pockets of Harves, and probably as well into back pockets of other former Booster representatives who didn't got caught.
$400,000 is a figure that was arrived at and agreed upon by a consortium of parties that came together to help straighten things out after this damage to the community had become obvious. This pre-determined figure of $400,000 was agreed to by the court. Because the (former) Springboro Boosters had such awful problems consistently tracking their own records and keeping accurate figures, no one will ever know the actual dollar figure.

Are you telling me the Program that I need to get with, Simply Put, is that the
Springboro Boosters got away with their own bad financial management and embezzlement
of the Students pay to play fees; AND they are continuing to do so, and that Taxpayers are now supposed to "move on" to the next round of Boosters Badgering Taxpayers to Pass a New Levy OR they will raise the Pay to Play fees, so that fewer Students get to play?

Actually, nothing to do with the protection plan at all. It's called THE LAW.
There is such a thing in this country as innocent until proven guilty. The driver is suspended until the court date.
Let the driver have their day in court, then the administration will take action.

Get Real! There is also such a thing in the private sector workplace known as
Common Sense, which seems to be an unknown factor in the protection plan of
job security for school union employees. In the real world where I live and work,
when a co-worker came to work drunk, he was told to pick up his coffee cup and
leave and that his final pay check would be mailed.
According to the news, The police stopped the bus because the driver was not in control. The police arrested the bus driver on a DUI charge. From my point of view, as a parent,
the bus driver is guilty of endangering the lives of precious children; judgment is already
rendered in the court of common sense; and the only action that should follow is
firing the driver so that this drive is never given a second change to put our children's
in harm's way, because of a stupid, uncaring decision to drink and then drive a
