Locals debate ban of smoking in parks

Ryan Cochrane of West York often visits city parks to walk his pit bull. He'd prefer not to have others smoking there, he said, as he took Barkley around Farquhar Park in York on Wednesday.

Let's ban farting,and bad breath and people who do not bathe from the parks. All examples of unpleasant odors in the open outdoors. Hope Toni doesn't go to the city parks and light one up. She may wind up being arrested. Maybe the mayor is right that there is no crime in York and this is a way to make criminals and justify all the cops. Let's outlaw all the other offensive behaviors while we are at it. Let's start with idiots who elect idiots to do the peoples business. Welcome to York City, check your tobacco products at city hall when you arrive.

What is taking so long. Some day maybe it will be passed for all parks in this county. I know it is banned in areas of Springettsbury's Mt. Zion Road Park but people still smoke . When there is a public function or concert it makes it very uncomfortable to be right next to a smoker. Not to mention the butts thron on the ground. Isn't this a form of littering also. Smoker's have their right to freedom to smoke ; but also nonsmokers have their right to be able to breath That said , maybe there couuld be some kind of compromise like a designated arrea for smokers to enjoy their habit in public.

Seriously, the city has enough problems with violent crime. Smoking in the parks should be the least of their concerns.

OTOH, if they can arrest someone for smoking, then they get a chance to search him/her for unregistered guns. The choice for gangsters is don't smoke, or leave your guns at home.

KISS is right on the money with this one. Don't forget about the odor from the under arm pits, the odor of old urnine stains in the underwear, the odor of "do do" drops in the rear section of the underwear, the bed bugs, the lice, the ring worms, the open wounds without bandages, the acne, the filthy clothes that smell like they have just been lifted from the clothes hamper, the odor of feet and socks that have not been washed in days and socks that have not been washed period. And, for God's sake, please don't forget the female odor that nature gives every 28 days or so. Let's also bar all the old people rolling around in wheel chairs with that old people smell. And keep out all the cripples who do not clean their canes and braces or change the batteries in their motorized wheelchairs. Let's bar the blind people too, especially those who do not regularly bathe their seeing eye funky dogs. And let's keep out all the babies and little people who have not been potty trained.

After all this is done, let's round up all the people who brought up such a stupid idea and take them to a park and beat the living shoot out of them.

We aren't talking about odors, we are talking about second hand smoke exposure to CHILDREN! Foul odors don't cause CANCER. No one should be smoking around children- you don't have the right to jeopardize the health of another, especially a child for the convenience of "lighting up" ANYWHERE you want. Take a teenager off of life support, because they had Lung Cancer from second hand smoke and get back to me with your whining.

Foul odors do cause cancer. I know because I took a kid off like support who died from second hand odors. I think we should bar children from the park and let the parks be open to adults who can come and light up at will. After all it is the adults who pay taxes for the parks, not the free loadin kids. Besides most of the kids around here were not planned, they were accidents. And from the looks of some of their faces, they were ugly accicents at that.

Please list one name of one teenager taken off life support because of second hand smoke. How do you know the cancer came from second hand smoke. Those fat asses waddling around the park, increasing my insurance premiums, as anyday they will be having a heart attack. In USA, it seems the norm to be obese. Way to go York. Once again it's the big issues. Farm animals in back yards, excess bbq smoke, laws for bonding of the treasurer. On the bright side, at least members of city council aren't fighting in the bathroom anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I love smokers, they are JOB SECURITY. I can list the patient's name because of HIPPA laws. Just trying to inform the public that children and adults chronically exposed to cigarette smoke can develop Lung Cancer. Smoke away the people that are legal, but try not to expose the future generations that don't have the choice. KOAB- you are a good fire starter, but no one thinks your opinion is credible.

Mr. Cochrane get a life! to ban smoking outside is silly, move out to the mountains if you want fresh air, you share the earth just like everyone else, no one is trying to dictate your actions. You're talking as if this smoking is in a confined area. It is outside where the second-hand smoke dissapates immediately. it is different from smoking indoors.

No, smoking is not banned from all city buildings. Buildings have sections of the building, either in or outdoors, for smoking.
