Columbine parents plead for release of - basement tapes'

I want to add that for everyone that wants these tapes released, in 2006 it was APPROVED to be released then quickly revoked due to all the reasons people are saying "it will cause copycats" blah blah blah. But it DID RELEASE ALL THE TRANSCRIPTS. Isn't that enough for people? After just reading all of them. I'm not sure *my* heart could handle watching it, let alone a person who's child was murdered by these people. Definitely a pickle to decide here.

my neighbor had brink and she got murdered and they didnt find her body for like a week.. use old fashion security system 44 mag or any damn gun you can get your hands on.... screw brinks... they suck.....

Ted, what in the hell are you rambling about? Cassie Bernall was not ever asked "do you believe in God" and never had any sort of exchange with neither of the shooters. Cassie was hiding beneath a table, and Eric walked over, slapped the top of the table two times, then knelt down to her and said "peek-a-boo" before shooting and killing her at point blank range.

The person who actually said "Yes" to anything, was Valeen Schnurr. She was shot and injured, and was yelling "God, help me!" when Dylan walked over to her and asked "Do you believe in God?" She hesitated and said "no," then "yes" trying to get the answer right. Dylan then asked her "Why?" and she said because it's what her family believed. Dylan did not shoot her afterward.

Not one person was killed for their religious beliefs. Everyone in the school was a target except for those who Dylan and Eric knew as friends.

google final report columbine videosift to see the Natgeo documentary that exposes that the killers were avenging a bad arrest. There has been no investigation of the arrest.

There's no reason the tapes have to publicly be released. Perhaps a compromise could be met with parents of victims being allowed to view the tapes without them being publicly available. The only thing the tapes would serve for the general public is to fulfil our morbid curiosity. It wouldn't help alert us in any way to warning signs. You can't be alerted to warning signs that are given to a video camera in a basement.

As for the parents of Harris and Klebold, they made mistakes as parents for sure, but that's no reason their lives have to be made more of a hell than they already are. A coworker of mine told me the other day about her friend's son who was a student at Columbine at the time of the shooting. He was acquaintances of the shooters and saw them right before the shooting on his way out to lunch. It ate him up inside that he wasn't there since he was on friendly terms with Harris and Klebold. He thought he could have stopped them. On the fifth anniversary of the shootings he killed himself. Klebold's parents went to the funeral, though nobody knew who they were during the proceedings. They cried through the entire funeral and left a note for this young man's parents apologizing for their son's actions, knowing it was their fault this kid killed himself. They wrote that it was the eigth funeral they had been to since the shootings, all suicides. Do you know what that must do to these parents? Sure, they should have paid far more attention to what their kids were doing. But to be publicly chastised for it for the rest of their lives is unacceptable. My mother didn't have a clue what I was up to in high school. Luckily I turned out to be a good kid. These parents aren't that lucky.

I will have to ask my coworker next time I see her. I can't remember his name now. I don't think it was exactly on the anniversary date, it was just five years later. Not sure of the exact date.

Ok I am no longer a Colorado resident. Last time i lived there was in 99 when i was 11 years old. I lived 15 minutes away from that school. I for one as a parent now would like to see those tapes so that i for one will be able to see what a kid looks and acts like before he does something that stupid so i could at least try to help him/her out before people get hurt. that is just my opinion you all can fight all you want but like i said there wouldn't be any harm in realising those tapes. There were a number of deaths of people associated with Columbine both before and after 4-20-99 that may be related to that event. We the People have a right to find out the names of anybody that has expired after the fact. It's on the public record, after all.

Yes, it's on public record. So get yourself a list of the students that attended Columbine during the shootings and compare that with death records. I don't want any part of dragging this out further. Let it rest and let the parents rest.

As for you, Fullmer, I don't think you quite grasp what is on the tapes. There is NOTHING on those tapes that will help identify shooters next time around. These kids gave no clue outside of their basements that something was going on. The best way for you to help you kids is to be involved in their lives. That's it. As for other people's children, you can't help them because you don't know them and are not intimately involved in their daily activities. That's the sad truth. Releasing the tape will do nothing but cause further torment for the Klebold and Harris families and re-awaken anger in the victims' families. Is that really necessary?

Some parents want to just get on with their lives. Others have nothing else to cling to. How does one "heal" when they keep dragging this up? It's almost been 10 years. It is time to move on. And before you get all uppity about not knowing what it is like to lose someone senselessly, yes I DO know what it is like.
