Mountain Mission School offers spaces for local homeless kids

Earl Neikirk/Bristol Herald Courier - Martha McGlothlin Gayle, United Company Charitable Foundation, wants to connect students from the Bristol area with openings at Mountain Mission School.

We shouldn't have any homeless children in Buchanan County. CAFH Children of America finding hope should be taking care of that. He promised that if he could get the supervisors to give him thousands of dollars to start the charity that he would provide a home and all these childrens needs. Promised that there would be no homeless children in Buchanan County.He made a fool of Buford Smith on his religious program and got to discussed his charity in full detail. All he needed was for everybody in the viewing area to send him as much money as possible. Even ran commercials of little pitiful children who had been placed in a nice clean home. Showing toys and laughter and everything roses. He also claimed he had a psychiatrist and a nurse and maybe a doctor on his staff who would work free. Promised all the children would be college educated. As far as anybody can tell the only Children who were provided this stuff was his three children in Washington county Va and he keeps laughing all the way to the bank day after day. Mutual funds for him and his three children. Big Investments. New cars , New Homes, Anything their little hearts desire. No child In Buchanan has received one dollar so far. Mountain Mission School also helped him get this charity started with no check and balance in place what so ever, just like they operate.

Homeless kids need not go to MMS.

They have no other denomination there,except COC.

They haven't taken any homeless and parentless kids in Buchanan County,since the 70's or 80's.

They are a private school and not governed by the DSS of Virginia.

How about asking MMS...seperating kids from homes with parents and keeping them until they were adults.

Ask MMS...why they adopted ''BABIES'' out to homes of people who supported MMS,and these ''BABIES'' had families still living in Buchanan County. My brother Gary Marrs Bowman...was one of the babies adopted out.I have met others of Buchanan County,who had ''BABIES'' adopted out of MMS.

There are alot of families..who want kids to raise. Send these kids to good homes.

MMS does not really care about these children and only line their pockets with the donations...of course they do not want federal funding because they could go to jail for embezzlement. The place needs a financial audit and many people would probably go to jail if this happened!!

I'm surprised the McGlothlins haven't researched this carefully. Michael and Sandra live in the county and know all the tales from this institution, please do not ignore this.

Foster care would be a better place for these children, at least they could visit with family and remain in in school with friends...Least restrictive environment is what foster care is all about NOT MMS!!!!

everybody that is thinking mms is a place for homeless kids or oprhanes or a bunch of rich kids from out of the state. IT IS ALL WRONG!!! Mountain Mission is a place for kids who need a little support due to finicial or family problems. The kids at MMS are the nicest people you will ever meet in your lives. The teachers are there cause they were called by the almighty God to come and serve. The students are taught at a high standard education and taught the scriputres everyday. All the rumors you hear about MMS may not be true. So i suggest you come up to the campus and check it out you would be supirsed at what you find.

Was you there in 60"s or 70's it probably is now cause all the regulations,if you ever knew,someone got rich back then

If they had the computers and everything they got now,with technologies back in the 60's and 70's,they wouldn't be where they r at today,you just had to live there like I did for12 yrs,they need to know what the outside world is about.

MMS is a private Christian School , first chartered by the State of Va. and not governed by the State of Va.

I ask any former student to show proof , of any Welfare worker / Social Services worker , ever visiting them , after being placed into MMS.

How many kids went home , Don Bloomfield said he spent 12 years there , the Marrs kids spent about that time there. The Marrs kids were not or ever orphans.

That's now but back then they would beat ya and starve ya too death,you just had to been there in 60's and 70's
