An infantile spectacle

President Barack Obama set a new standard Wednesday for stupidly exploitative White House events by appearing onstage with children to unveil his gun control proposals.

I think it is standard operating procedure for politicians to surround themselves with artfully selected groups or individuals in order to drive home whatever point they think they are making. I imagine there was a selection committee that chose the sweetest, most angelic little ones as the backdrop for Obama's righteous anger as well as his almost convincing teary-eyed grief. I was more inclined to listen to his speech which was a compendium of excerpts from memorable speeches by great Americans, including Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Considering the time frame and the circumstances in 1863 when the speech was originally given, the dedication of the cemetery for the honored dead who left us in the armed service to this country, there was something oxymoronic about using this particular speech. I looked at this speech as more of the same, written with a book of famous quotes in one hand and spell check on automatic.

You poor thing you… as the hour approaches for the second Inauguration of our Osama-killing President the pain must be excruciating.
President Obama stood on stage with 4 children who wrote him about Sandy Hook; who were more affected by the tragedy than you heartless right-wing tea-baggers. Ghettos, abortions and single family homes didn’t slaughter twenty 6 year olds, that semi-automatic rifle in the hands of a gun nut did that.

Change is coming, one way or another… either get on board or get run over… and I’m hoping that you don’t get on board.

you want a "wanted dead or alive" poster of bin laden that the gun goobers would understand instead of something akin to a rational foreign policy.
Gun safety, of course, is about children and obviously what moved the President to seek the advice of over 250 constituencies and start finally doing something on this issue which he has largely ignored.
Blaming an inanimate object and legislating against the honest and law abiding citizens of this country IS ignoring the issue. Until we find a way of detecting and stopping violent unstable people before they harm anyone we will be subject to their violence. The pathological mind will find a means to its end. Taking away a tool will not stop the violence, it will only change the method by which the violence is perpetrated. Do you somehow feel better and safer about Tim McVeigh's barnyard bomb? If one tool isn't available the bad guys will simply find another, maybe even a more destructive one. We must address the violent mind, not the tools it uses because there are literally thousands of ways to kill a lot of unsuspecting people and guns are just one convenient tool. Maybe fly a jetliner into a skyscraper...oh wait....someone already thought of that one too. Or how about a dump truck at 60 MPH through a crowded playground? Please don't delude yourself into believing that banning guns will have any effect on psychos looking to kill. The only change will be that the victims won't be shot to death, they will be killed by another means.

This "blaming an inanimate object" meme is a distraction. The point is keeping it out of the hands of someone who would use it because it is made explicity to kill quickly and requires no skill, team or planning like flying an airplane or blowing up up a truck of fertilizer.

Really? It takes planning to steal or borrow a dump truck and wait for recess? How much planning and team work does it take to strike a match and light a Molotov cocktail? You can go to the public library and get the information needed to make explosives. Hell, all you need to make old fashioned black powder (the original gun powder) is sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter. You just don't get it do you? Yes guns are an easy tool to use for killing. But taking away that tool does not remove the desire to kill. The nut jobs out there who have decided, for whatever reason, to kill a large number of innocent people will not be deterred in the slightest. Like I said, there are literally thousands of ways to kill large numbers of unsuspecting people. Do you honestly believe that the whack jobs who want to kill innocent children won't adjust their methods if guns aren't available? They're psycho, not stupid. Gun control is like trying to kill a snake by beating on its tail. You might slow it down 'til it heals but you haven't even come close to killing it. Until we address the source of the problem, the pathological mind,(the snakes' head so to speak) the problem will continue.

The only thing that is infantile is the mind of the person who wrote that opinion column for Politico.
The kids on the stage was the perfect way to remind everyone that it was the killing of 20 kids that inspired this swift response for gun safety measures. And these are the same people who either have no suggestions or solutions to the obvious problems that this nation has with guns. Funny thing is there were people (mainly on the right) who criticized President Obama’s change in policies, strategies and tactics back in 2009 when it came to the hunt for Osama bin Laden. They said that it would make this country less safe and it would find Bin Laden…
4 years later, there hasn’t been a single successful terrorist attack on American soil on Obama’s watch, and Osama bin Laden sleeps with the fishes.
So proven by the landslide mandated election, We the People will go with Obama over the skeptics… he’s a proven winner.
What about Benghazi, on American ground.

I and most everyone you belittle believe in helping each other and much of what we do. I do not support evil. You and the LSD based progressive movement are full throttle now. You see our living falling apart all over but only look at your personal gains as proof it is working. Those things I wrote and you demeaned with the heartless teabagger claptrap slaughter much more by a million fold by you lovable outcasts that have destroyed common sense thinking that ghettos, gays, feminists and pure progressive white guys can keep change forever. Only when there is foundation you can. If an economic downturn occurs, you will see what you wrought. The really sad thing is that when the time comes, government will turn on you and open up the camps it can legally do without a trial and much more. And you will get on board. The trains will be heading to those camps as government arrests and/or kills undesirables. Sorry, but I believe history and what results then assinine freaks who have turned the world upside down for a half century spending much of our wealth on foreign and domestic boondoggles while charging the working class people in the middle who you insult day and night. Advances have been made. But for what we are paying, utopia should have arrived. So you must blame someone. It is never enough. And I know that this is going to end bad. That is 100%. How it goes can be a multiple amount of ways. You souless, half dead, brainless, chromosome deficient pseudo human. Obama is a tyrant. Deal with it.

Are you REALLY that blind? Do you REALLY think this is about protecting people? No one said anything about geniuses, it ain't rocket science. Do you REALLY think the government is able protect people from random psycho killers? The government is holding forth a false promise. They are saying that "we can protect you but the constitution is getting in our way" when, in fact, they cannot and will not protect you. First of all, preventing those don't obey the law from obtaining firearms is virtually impossible in the world of today. Secondly, there are many other ways to accomplish what the bad guys want to do. And finally, everything the government has done/is attempting to do is completely reactionary and ineffective. The government will kill or punish these mass killers........after the fact. The police can't be EVERYWHERE and 99% of the time they are the SECOND responders......the bad guy was there FIRST. If you want to buy into the illusion that gun laws make you safer, be my guest. What type of legislation will you call for next once you've discovered that this legislation is completely ineffective? How much freedom must the entire American population surrender to make you feel safe from the few random psychos who commit these acts in spite of all the gun laws we already have?
