Isn't it nice that our criminal justice system gives criminals a vacation from doing nothing so that they can destroy our way of life? I wonder if these dirt bags fathered any illegitimate children while they were out, so that we can have the honor of paying for them and furloughing them when they follow in their fathers' footsteps?

Sting operation? This was a plain old regular police investigation except this time they got lucky.

A sting operation is a deceptive operation designed to catch a person committing a crime.

What part of this was the deceptive operation?

Police didn't set this up.

Police didn't surveil the theft.

Victim heard the crime, called police, police heard what they assumed were missing atv/motorcycles, zoned in and made arrest.

Good luck and hard work but no sting operation.

Zeke Wright has been watching too much TV.

What I want to know is how did they get number 3 to give up 4's name?

I think the criminals would first of all have to be SMART before the police can say they fooled them in a sting operation. Clearly this was not the case with these bozos.

and why bother saying anything. Whenever I call to let the pd know that there are atvs noisily riding in my MHP, I get told they are not illegal. Why call and why keep my eyes open to anything suspicious? Why?

I don't know, maybe because it's the right thing to do?

I couldn't agree more. I have been called many names because I hate these slope headed slobs and their illigid kids. Ever notice that the alleged mother is usually a fat slob covered with stupid tattoos and the alleged sperm doaner is a slob that looks like he flosses with a rope? I hate the government because they pay these swine and swinetts to breed. Just look when on the street. The parade of slack jawed berry pickers is endless.I want to blow lunch when I see some sow with a belly down to her knees and a skinney little runt boy friend in tow.

These three were out on house arrest at the time and being housed in the community on your tax dollars. But as 'Nana Says' writes, they are considered 'non-violent' so your Legislature wants you to believe that taking these punks out of jail is saving you tax dollars. They still won't explain how repeat offenders are saving the state money by keeping them out of jail.

I wonder how the victims feels about this?

Come on Shumlin, Sears, etc., let's make laws that will keep repeat offenders in jail. Especially if they prove to be "house arrest failures". Enough is enough, jeez.

What police work! They outsmarted three nitwits with a combined IQ of 47.

Oh, like someone said, it was not a sting operation. The banner reporter's IQ is added to the nitwits' to total 78 for all four.

They were a few kids goofing off. Shouldnt we be more concerned with the sex offenders running around? This is a much smaller thing. WOW PEOPLE! And wait to judge... everyone. I hope you never messed up when you were young. Because I no at least for me I have made plenty of my own mistakes, but some times with age we change. Its rediculous to want to keep them in jail forever over this. They didnt hurt anyone and there are bigger problems around here than this minor one.

Kids goofing off? They are a gang of habitual offending adults accused of and likely guilty of committing grand larceny and furlough violations.

With age we change? At what age do you think this gang will change? They are adults and they still are not changing.

Its rediculous to want to keep them in jail forever over this? They were not in jail to start with. Put them in there and they won't be able to do things like this.

They didn't hurt anyone and this is a minor problem? They don't call it grand larceny for the fun of it.

Russell and Coon both reside at 206 Depot Street, a residential program used by the Department of Corrections to house some under its supervision? What supervision?

You have no idea what you are saying or who you are talking about.

Ask the victims of these guys' crimes what they think.

What if they steal your possessions?

Kyle has it right. These guys are criminals and well on their way to being CAREER criminals. They are punks that have no conscience. The only positive thing about some guys like this is that they will steal from the wrong person someday.

Habitual offender status before you hit 25 is nothing to brag about. Looks like they might succeed.

What might have happened if they tried to take the atvs from another criminal? Might have been the best thing for all of us.

Has any one of you making the accusations even stopped to think that it is the town they live in? No it is not okay what they did and they do need to be punished for their crimes, but bennington is a very small town and a large majority of the kids and young adults in town get into trouble because there is nothing here. As well it does not matter what kind of up bringing a lot of them had, they will do what there so called friends are doing. By sending them to jail multiple all we are doing is stunting their maturity and they will just sit in jail with other criminals to learn how to not get caught. People conform to the influences around them and that is what these guys have done. It by far was wrong and should not have happened. They also should be paying for the damages that they caused. But calling them names calling there parents names, does no good. It is stereo typing. It is obvious that none of you that are calling them names have taken a good look at any one of these guys lives and where they come from. There are much worse offenders out there that we let walk the streets and offend over and over IE sex offenders that get a slap on the wrist. Or other violent offenders. Why are you so concerned with an act that really only boils down to a monitory value when there are rapist and violent offenders running around with our children and families? Why dont you look at where they came from and stereotype there mothers. Even someone with the best up bringing can screw up and get involved with the wrong crowed. I would love to see what everyone of you had done as a young adult, and see what we could throw you in jail for. There are plentY of people that have stolen things and gotten away with it. Maybe these mothers and fathers that you are labeling so terribly did do something right because their kids are the ones getting caught, so they didn't know enough to make sure that they didn't get in trouble and got away with it. Maybe you should think about that before you go accusing!

"bennington is a very small town and a large majority of the kids and young adults in town get into trouble because there is nothing here."

They get in trouble because they were inadequately taught the difference between right and wrong, most likely by someone like you that apologized for them every time the got caught demonstrating their lack of knowledge of the difference between right and wrong. So they learned that they could get away with it, because some well meaning idiot would tell them it was not their fault.

They stole ATV's. It was a conscious choice. They should accept the consequences. You are part of the problem if you think it should just be explained away.

It could have been explained to them that with a job and saving money, they too could purchase ATVs and enjoy riding them.

A small not large minority not majority of the kids and young adults in town get into trouble and not because there is nothing here. It's because of the way they are and no one can blame it on anyone or anything else.
