This may not have happend if there was a place to ride legally on LI. Even with all the new construction there are still acres and acres of unused land that could be turned into an ATV park. The wild life will get used to it just like they did with the 100+ golf courses on LI.

were their parents aware they had these ATV's? were the parents supervising their children?
17 and 18 year olds are not that young, but they are not that experienced to be driving dangerous vehicles for sport.
lesson learned, hopefully.

Even proffesionals get hurt.
Perhaps if healthcare was more affordable he could have had glasses or contacts (cost $200+/-) but now his injuries will probably cost someone thousands!
17 & 18 year olds can pretty much do anything but buy alcohol (luckily). Case in point the one guy got arrested, justice done. the other will probably get a court appearance of his own too.

You have another one (typo) in this statement, too. Genius.

And not that it sounds like they would have helped, but I second "HELMETS?".

What do glasses or contacts have to do with anything?

what does healthcare got to do with kids riding ATVs?
anyway - being from medford/patchogue i'm sure these two had at least medicaid.(or shouldn't their parents be suppling healthcare for their children???)
and if they needed glasses at about 200$, maybe they should cost back on the sneakers and sean john clothes, and buy things that are more affordable....

Gee, let's think about this. 17 and 18 years old....They are old enough to go to War and get shot at daily, all just to protect us. They are old enough to get arrested and charged as an adults, but their not old enough to drink, smoke or drive an ATV?????? I think they just used poor judgement. How many car accidents a day have people going to the hospital? Should we all stop driving cars?

Maybe if there were places for them to ride they may not have driven on the road.

TO ALL THE MOTORCYCLE AND ATV HATERS...YOU PROBABLY DRINK & DRIVE OR TALK ON YOUR CELL PHONES, ETC.

Unfortunately the EPA is more concerned with the safety of LI turtles and ducks then they are with the safety of LIer's. Besides, the age groups that enjoy this type of recreation can't afford to grease the local politicians like the people who frequent the 100's of golf course on LI.

They are both alive so they can breed! Besides it was an accident, I do not think it was genetically related!

No, this may not have happened if these idiots followed the law.
I think you missed the point. If there were some place to ride legally it would not be so tempting/exciting to ride illegaly. They are only idiots for crashing not for riding.

Sure, what a couple of idiots! But more because this is exactly the kind of exposure we don't need, doesn't ATV use have a bad enough rap? More people should consider this before they decide where/when to ride. If they had a legal place to ride here in Suffolk the chances of this would certainly decrease. Please everyone use you head, actions like this are most likely to hurt, rather than help the cause for a legal riding place.

How does this even qualify as news? This should be page 10 of the local Patchogue newspaper.
