I have not been in Debre Markos for few years now but I have heard that there is a lot going on over there.

There is a lot of construction all over the town. One mid levle college was opened three years ago, which trains teachers for the Amhara region. Among the 13 new universities which are being built in the country, one of them is in Debre Markos. It is named Debre Markos University which I think is a good name. Few buildings have already been completed and the university has gone operational with hundreds students.

The private sector also seem to be engaged in construction of buildings.Star Business Group is building hotels and shopping centers on a wide area in the heart of the town.

Russian and Ethiopian investers were also going to built an electric bus manufacturing plant in the town, although I have not heard any progess so far.
I will have some pictures to share in a little while.

Aseffa,

You know nothing about D.M.

Debre Markos and the surrounding is the worst neglected area in Ethiopia today. There are about 2.7 million people living in east Gojjam surrounding DM. Yet, DM has no any facility when for example Axum gets Hospital, colleges, university (3500 students) and many other development activities. When you said development in dm. I just laugh at you. You know nothing at all. You must be one of the few stupid we have today in and around DM working for woyane at the expense of the local people.

When the OLF/OPDO used Ethnic cleansing and expelled to Gojjam about 50.000 living in wellega mainly in Hguro Gudro/shampoo city and the surrounding for generations, crossing the Nile to the jabi area, those animal types holding power in the era have done nothing. Dm and the whole gojjam is became the worst victim to woyane and the Gallas because of stupid so called gojames are against own community serving woyane for leftover reward. Shame.

I was born in Debre Markos wuseta. I wasn't fan of football that much but I enjoyed watching the game b/n kefetegna 1 and kefetegna 2. My favourite player was Tade Godu. I like the cherka cherk team too. I went to wuseta elementary school until 6th grade and then to Fikir Ascheris school until 9th grade. But I completed my 10th, 11th, and 12th grade at Tikur Anbessa High School in Addis Ababa. I am really happy to had been born in Debre Markos. Now I live in san diego, California, USA. I have a beautiful wife and a beautiful little 5 month old daughter. I do my own business. Best of all I have Jesus Christ in my life as my savor and Lord.

I was born and raise in Debremarkos, a city which I love. If I am not wrong I love Tadege guadie and Wubshet in a foot ball game.It has been almost 12 years since I left DM. I missed " wutrin meda and wonze" I missed my parents so much. I cannot wait to go back to DM, meet my parents, brothers and friends as well as my neighbours. But it will not be soon. They have to wait another two or three years. So Sad.God bless you all. Ephrem from Washington DC.

Hi Every body! I am from Debre Markos. I left about 30 years ago. But I have been back there a couple of time. The last one was three years ago. Debre Markos is changing. But it still has the old flavour. But what sadened me was that I felt like a stranger in my own home town. A lot of people have moved out and a lot of new people have moved in.
Dawit, I remember your father. I also remember your brother who was also working for the air line and of course Mamitu. Keep posting.

Hi hi there it looks very interesting discussing about Debre Markos first let us log out the problems of Debremarkos . I think D.M was established before Addis some time in the 1874 as menkorer . So what is the reason that we are going 1000 thousand years back .'TEWULOBIN NEEW??? TEDEGIMOBIN NEEW?? TIKUR AHIYA TEKEBROBIN NEWW ?????????
