I agree. When Oprah Winfrey becomes the most influential person in America, it's scary.

At least, Oprah shares her wealth---how many other zillionaires in this country do you know of that does for others like Oprah does? And by the way, I'm a white gal.

I can think of quite a few - Bill Gates, Eli Lilly, Cornelius Vander Starr, William Hewlett, W. K. Kellogg, Robert Wood Johnson, George Soros, etc. The only difference is, Oprah likes to publicize her "generosity", so we'll all know what a kind, giving, wonderful person she is.
Give me a break.

I think each one of these people should make a small donation to the charity of my choice - ME. That way I wouldn't have to choose between paying for my prescriptions or paying my utilities. And no, I am not a senior citizen - just your average paycheck to paycheck person!

Many rich people give millions to charity, they just don't publicize their philanthropy. They are the TRULY giving back people you never hear about, and that is how they want to keep it!!!

You people are freaking idiots. Are you from Russia or something? Don't you understand how capitalism works?

Oprah is both a TV personality and a brand name, so of course she should seek some return on her investment when she donates millions to charity. She's getting publicity back in return.

Every time Microsoft donates to a charity you can best believe that the Microsoft logo gets plenty of visibility and advertising as part of the deal. Heck, Microsoft and Intel got all sorts of air time just for suggesting that they were going to find a way to give $100 to poor citizens in the 3rd world, and the project never happened. The same goes for Eli Lilly, or IBM or any of the other companies mentioned.

Welcome to the real America.

Welcome to the world of REAL business.

Move to Moscow if you don't like it.
