A sad loss but what a magnificent life.

If ever a life story would have made a great film - John's was it.

From penniless boy working in a coalmine through the ranks of the British army retiring after WWII as a Major into a full career as a Hollywood actor.

A fine man.

I am trying to trace Jon Aderson who was the actor John Alderson's son. Jon, although born in america went to primaery and secondary school in Romford, Essex, England. I believe that Jon left england in about 1978-1980 and moved to the USA. If you track him down please let me know. Jon would be about 47/48 years of age.
Thanks

John Alderson was a half uncle of mine. Although he visited his brother Harry Alderson (my uncle) in Horden fairly regularly I never ever met him. My cousin, Edna Steele, his niece, had him visit quite often over the years. She stayed in touch with him till his death. Edna still lives in Peterlee, Co Durham.

My father Bryan Alderson was John Basher Alderson"s nephew. I met my great uncle Jack on many occasions the last being when he came to shepperton studios to film Ragtime with James Cagney. Uncle Jack stayed with us in Hampton Hill. I stayed in contact with him until close to his death. Great memories of such a big character.

My mums sister is John Aldersons daughter.(My auntie Rita) I adored both of them growing up as a child and was lucky enough to spend Christmas out in California with GD (we always called him that,it came from my auntie Rita's children) he was a wonderful man and feel very proud at what he achieved.

Hi Paul, I've just come across this on the internet and it's good to hear that you are still alive and kicking. I remember you and I remember Jon Alderson very well too. He was the guy who could always throw the cricket ball farther than anyone else at St. Patrick's. I was watching a film this morning with Jon's dad in it (The War Lord) and thought I'd look him up. Sorry to hear that he died, but he had a full and good innings judging by his obituary. If you get this Paul, it would be good to hear from you. I went to Bishop Ward for about three months before I moved to Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.
