What's your favorite buttery bakery?
You missed Reinwald's Bakery in Huntington. It was started in Bellerose but opened this location in 1985. The best butter cookies and lace cookies.

I was surprised not to see Benkert's of Centereach listed. I have lived on Long Island for 32 years, and Benkert's is the best.

Benkert's, without fail, provides the crappiest baked goods in the area. The past two times that I've stopped there, the almond horn was stale, the cookies we bought were dry and definitely not made with butter, and they're incredibly overpriced for the quality that one receives. Even though it's slightly out of the way, I will now only go to Rolling Pin Bakery on 25A in East Setauket. It's the only bakery in this part of suffolk that consistently makes quality goods.

Beach Bakery Cafe located in Westhampton Beach is by far the best!!! Beach Bakery is a European style bakery with a very cozy atmosphere. It is also very family orientated. You can go there and get a cup of coffee, tea or a delicious cappuccino and a pastry, muffin or bagel and sit down and relax or meet your friends or family there. They are very well known for their fabulous raspberry crossiants and black and white cookies. They also have wireless internet service for the convenience of their customers. I highly recommend the Beach Bakery Cafe.

I'm surprised that the RISE ABOVE bakery on Main Street in Huntington slipped under the radar of buttery bakeries. It should have made your list. For the last 28 years it's been our favorite neighborhood bakery.
Yours truly,

Blah have you tried Bj's Confections in Holbrook yet? Everything we have tried has been the best quality. The butter cookies are to die for. You can really taste the butter. Everything we have had has been great. It's great having a good bakery we can count on.

Dear Readers,
Thanks for all the tips, and especially for letting me know about Steiner's. I will try to include it in any future reporting.
I have never gotten stale baked goods at Baked to Perfection, but if that is the case, I am ever so sorry to hear it.

Sylvia,
I would love to invite you into my bakery,
Bj's Confections. I was pleasently surprised to see comments regarding my bakery. My daughter & I have been in business for a little over a year. We like to bake here just the way we bake at home, all from scratch. It is time consuming, but well worth every bite. Hope to meet you in the future, Barbara

I recently moved to Roslyn Heights, I will have to try St. Honore's. I pass it when I go to Stop and Shop, but haven't stopped in. I'm also curious because my cousin and grandmother are named Honore! I'm glad to get other feedback about Baked to Perfection, that's another one I haven't stopped in yet. I'll still try it, but I'll be prepared. But I still love Diane's, just so tasty. The brownies, those cookies, and birthday cakes that I have ordered are absolutely incredible. No words to describe the taste, texture....okay, now I need to get to Diane's this weekend!

Fritzche's (I think that's how you spell it) in downtown Sayville was an awesome bakery.

Their breads were fantastic!

And their crumb cake was the absolute best I have ever had...

Bake your own cakes and cookies. You have no idea how many mice get into the cakes before you do! I know first hand!

Love my cakes and cookies from Fehn's (used to be Gerst) in Seafood. I have absolutely no interest in eating cookies made with oleo, taste like carboard, Butter makes it better, especially at Fehns

If you travel into the Village of Northport, there is a bakery their that uses butter in their cookies. Check them out. What a great place to go. You can also sign up for classes with friends or with your kids.

Butter Cookie Lovers:
If you haven't been to Quintessential Cookies on Main Street in Northport, do yourself a favor and get over there. The wide variety of cookies are to die for with their unique and mouth-watering flavors, visually pleasing shapes, and creative colors. Gift baskets and containers line the shelves waiting to be filled. The owners are friendly and helpful. We've sent cookie gifts at least 10 times and each one has been very well received. If you want to buy a single cookie or a platter for 50, this is the place!

Quintessential Cookie on Northport's Main Street is the real deal where you can still get the real thing. The owner and her girls not only make delicious and beautiful cookies, cakes and breads, but they go out of their way to be part of the community during our Cow Harbor Day parade. They even hosted my daughter's Brownie troop recently, teaching them how to make tasty treats.

The Bagel Bakery on the Monterey Peninsula, CA. Don't laugh, NY-ers! There are a lot of NY ex-pats on the west coast!

Or for sourdough - Monterey Bakery.

But alas, I now live in Atlanta and dough just doesn't seem to rise right here. Hard to find good bakeries.

However, Fresh Market has some of the best baked goods - if y'all ever get stranded here in GA and get desperate.
