If you are looking for something that carries the mood of the tv series, you will be very disappointed. The movie is a comedy, not a drama. And Depp essentially plays Barnabas as if he's Jack Sparrow. So don't expect Dark Shadows as we knew it. That said. it's an amusing movie. But, as I said, I was disappointed.

It's just sad and pathetic that the younger generation is going to get the wrong idea about Dark Shadows . I went back in October to see the remake of John Carpenters The Thing and it was horrible and nothing even remotely close to the original . Not even characters , situations , and the " Thing" itself . Besides , the 80s original was way more of a thriller . It's just a waste of my cash to go to a theater and even expect something good . I stick to the comfort of my house and Netflix .. Plenty of awesome thrillers and cult classics that are better than any remake .
