My brother, Frederick Charles Milner, III, aka Derf Scratch died from cirrhosis, kidney failure and pneumonia after decades of alcohol and drug abuse. He was 59. Regardless of how he chose to live his life, he was a lovely little boy, a sweet young man, and we will miss him more than can be put into words.

I saw your brother play a few times, and am so sorry for your loss. 59 is too young.

Derf was one of my best friends-He was an artist, and one of the best bass players of all time-We had a great friendship-He played on many recordings with my husband Ian. He chose to live his life as an artist. Wendy, I am sure you just do not understand an artists life. It is not very nice to say this about Derf on a public forum.
Can you allow him some privacy in his passing?
Let's hear it for my good friend and Derf's loving wife Tami Milner who will forever hold a torch for him.
We love you Derf!

Wow! I am finally reading all of these posts about my late husband. First of all - everyone got the date wrong. Derf passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 5:30 in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day outside and I was with him around the clock for the last 10 days of his life. He was in a coma for his final 3 days and I sang to him and played his favorite music. There were no services by my choice. I will scatter his ashes in Tombstone, Arizona at the Boothill Cemetery. Just light a candle and think about what a great person he was every year on his birthday - October 30th. Derf, baby, I miss you and will love you for all my life! Hope to see you in the next one.....

I'm so sad, I dated him when he lived on top of the movie theater & he was a bit too hardcore for me. I lost touch with him when I moved out of the LA. He was a very, very talented man & he will be truly missed. He use to sing to me all the time. I hope he made it to his destiny, "In the Boom Boom Room." You will always have a special place in my heart & I miss you Frederick.
