The Death of Superman: ideals in entertainment

When comic book writers decided to publish the dismaying story that Superman, the world's favorite superhero avatar, was killed in a death match against the apocalyptic villain Doomsday, a battle which resulted in both of their deaths, fans expressed great dissatisfaction with the story's anarchistic sour note.

Years before, Richard Lester's Hollywood (USA) movie "Superman III" (1983) depicted Superman succumbing to a strange chemical and turning into a vain and egotistical version of his otherwise healthy self. Fortunately, Superman was able to overcome his vain dark half with his ethical commanding spirit.

Comic book writers soon listened to fans and decided to resurrect Superman as a spirit being who escaped his dead body and adopted a new one.

Can Superman truly be killed? Should Superman be dead? After all, the social need for Superman echoes a civilization frailty regarding law and order. However, just because police officers and lawmen and heroes (and superhero avatars) are an obvious sign of the problem of crime, this does not mean that humanity should turn to vigilante behavior or anarchy or crime-obsession to spite human frailty.

In other words, perhaps ethics-themed Hollywood (USA) movies such as "Superman III" (1983) which depict failures in ethics actually represent self-improvement intentions.

Are they printing movie posters on hemp/recycled paper yet?

God bless!
