Why are the Beatles so popular 50 years on?

Full story: Newsday

Over there this summer you are celebrating, as all of us over here know, a decades-old anniversary of uncanny auspiciousness: the Jubilee of an institution that has lasted far longer than many thought possible, transcending its native place in Britain to become a source of constant, almost unbroken reassurance to the entire world.

It's very simple. The Beatles are still popular because they were different and a very talented group of musicians and song writers. They changed rock and roll history set trends and were ahead of their times.Their music will always live on because it is brilliant and well composed and their charm will always be remembered as well as their wit.

Yes, Bubba. Their music still lives on because it is classical and unsurpassed. In the history of the world no other pop/rock group has such fame and durance like the Beatles. Is this accidental? We don't think so. Everyone can give explanations why this admiration continues like it is 1964 and not 2012. To me, the most important of it all, was, is and always will be, music.

Like my 13 yr old son said to me the other day when I asked him why he liked to listen to the Beatles instead of "todays" bands. "It's the music mom, the music."

Hey Dave for once You,Allan, and I all agree. Let's keep this room positive if we can? I know you can do it so let's all try to make some rooms friendly with no attacks or put downs. We are all guilty of doing that and I'm offering a challenge to us all because the truth is the Beatles were 100% in favor of Peace. PEACE OUT.

The Beatles are still popular today as they were 50yrs ago,for the same reasons.
I remember in the 60s,the argument was,The Beatles,The Stones or Dylan.Everybody else were below them. And this was real.I love Dylan, and The Stones of the 60s.But The Beatles came out ahead in my opinion because They had 4 singers, and 3 main song writers.and their vocals could be any combination of the four.
Waiting for the new Beatle single in the 60s was a feeling like nothing else before or since. And finally hearing it was like...
Each new single (especially from A Hard days night on)was so different and technically ahead of the previous one(and rock in general)but still Beatlesque.Especially the Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields 45.It was so much for the brain to digest.
Light years ahead of the previous single, light years ahead of anything out at the time, pioneering, setting precedents, changing the music business and the world, other musicians, their peers, were in awe.And most of all:
it seemed like the 60s went from black & white to Technicolour,by mid 1966.

i never felt that way about it, it was the Beach Boys and then the Beatles. and that was it. the music never stopped. i never felt that any band or song was beneath another, usually what you heard on the radio was listenable and not just some overblown garbage. the beatles and lennon in particular were innovative and musically inclined, but they also knew their limitations from what i gather from numerous kiss and tell books and modern internet opinions. i liked the stones for what they were, i never heard or believed that any contest was going on. dylan well he's another ball of wax, and a very talented individual.

Though the Beatles are my favorite band, I love the Rolling Stones,Bob Dylan and the Beach Boys, all of these greats created music that will live for many many more years to come.
It's amazing that Paul,Ringo and the Beach Boys have released new cd's this year and Dylan coming up in September, not to mention the Rolling Stones new tour and album out in 2013, all I can say is enjoy them while they're still here.
Dion, who released his first single in 1958 released a new cd in January and it rocks, and it's most likely to get nominated for a Grammy.
Music has a way of bringing people together.

Yeah where would we be without the music. Poppa couldn't tap dance or do the shuffle. Thanks to all the wonderful groups and singers that make our world a better place with their music. Beatles will always be my favorites and their legacy will live on and on no doubt. Now I've got to get back to the Jivetones and get my Jivebones moving and groovin again.
