Sexism? Give me a break: Underwood, Clarkson, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, and Jordin Sparks. All winners, all women. Just plain lousy reporting.
Pia has a good voice, but she is boring, that's why she was voted off.

Taylor hicks is a man Amy.

I think the show lost all credibility when Hicks won years back. He never even came close to IDOL status the way Clarkson, Underwood, Daughtry (who lost btw) have. They are mega stars while Fantasia, Hicks, Chris whatever his name who beat Adam Lambert have turned out to be barely stars.

American Idol often gets it wrong. This year will probably be no different. It sucks without Simon anyway and have found myself missing more shows than I have watched.

Why is it a surprise? Pia sucked. She was boring and strained on the high notes.

I'm a female and a Haley fan so sexism is not a reason I didn't vote for Pia.

I 100% agree Amy,, she was incredibly boring, it was rock and roll night and she once again sang a boring slow melody and planted her feet firmly on the floor, she just does not have what it takes to entertain an audience.
I really don't think she will make it to far in the industry, maybe in the orchestra or something like that, but definitly not in the big record selling business.
Do just have to say that we are already hearing Scotty Mcreery on our radio,, not kidding, they have been playing his songs that he is singing on Idol on our local stations, that is one that is going to be on the CMA's by 2012 guaranteed!.
regardless if he wins this contest or not, does not matter, he is already a star and has been "discovered".
That kid is the next Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash all rolled into one, AND,, he can entertain!.
My second favorite is definitly James. Third is Halley.

George -

All the official polls and Dial Idol have Scotty WAY in the lead, so he will definitely win Idol this year. I think you named the final three in your post, actually: Scotty, James and Haley.

Jacob and Stephano need to go home next.

My bad; Taylor Hicks IS a guy with a really girlie name, and as far as I know his career has been rather insignificant.
But, this year I do love Scotty, and he's so young, a little maturity is going to make him even better. I disagree about James though, he doesn't do a thing for me. I love the blues and Casey started out as my favorite, but I'm now rooting for Scotty, Lauren and Holly. TMI-LOL

I agree with you about Scotty, he will only get better and better with age and the right coaching, and I have no doubt he will be the one to go on to one heck of a career, we will be seeing and hearing about Scotty in the future, whether he wins this compitition or not, he will still go on to be a famous country singer.
I do like Haley and Lauren to, did you know Haley was originally blues, and Lauren is country? but they have both been able to mix it up beautifully,, and to say nothing of Scotty, I was nervous last week when they said Rock and Roll week, his voice is so low and most of Rock and Roll is high pitched with alot of screaming, something he could never physically do, So I'm sitting here thinking what is he going to do? brilliant that he picked Elvis Presley!! perfect pitch for him and the girls in the audience obviously LOVED him!!

I agree,, Jacob and Stephano will be next, unless they do something amazing next week.
What I see with Scotty is a natural talent, he makes it look so easy and natural, doesn't get nervous in front of a big audience, doesn't miss a note or beat, he has more confidence than I would ever dream a 17 year old would, but yet he is not aggorant about it. perfect combination!

Well, George IS a popular name. No, I never watch American Idol until they separate the wheat from the chaff, so I didn't know Haley sang the blues. But, I'd like to hear her do some Janice Joplin-like song.
And, I'd love to hear Scotty do some Hank Williams or Patsy Cline.(Crazy?)

Yeah on George! lol,,, have no control over what location it decides to put me, I know, I know, register,, naw...

Your missing out, I love the tryouts, some are so dang funny!
And yeah, I would love to hear Haley do some Janice Joplin also, I do like the huskiness of her voice, not so dang screetching as some of them are, not so sure Patsy Cline would work for Scotty though,, Hank W would be great, but I do believe Johnny Cash would be incredible!
Ever listen to Blue grass? thinking Haley would be awesome with that also.

Haley sang Janis Joplin this past week - Piece of My Heart.

Next week is movie theme week. It would be cool if Scotty sang the theme to Midnight Cowboy!

If that twanging twit wins. I will never watch idol again. Country has no business on idol IMO.
It is horrible.

Be prepared to never watch Idol again, then, because Scotty is the shoe-in to win!

This isn't my favorite bunch of idols ever, but it's still so exciting to watch! Do you vote? I admit I do.*blushes*

Not if the judges have anything to say about it. We all have our favorites, but when it comes down to an "unbiased" decision; then the top three (best/strongest) singers would be, in decending order, Jacob.. "Pia".. and James. And I "do" say this in an un-biased.. un-sexist.. un-musical.. and un-ageless way.... Peace!

I think that pushing country on AI is a game changer. It means people like me who hate country will not sit through that mindless kind of crooning. They already have a country idol show for people with limited talent like Scotty who CAN only sing this kind of hoaky, low=note country songs which are ZZZZZZZZZzzzzz...boring and after the upteenth one, ANNOYING.

This is a competition to find an American Pop Idol and only a small segment of America likes Country.
Pop and country are two different things but apparently no one told country folks about that.

The show sucks without Simon anyway. J-lo is good with the advice but a snoozer. S. Tyler is creepy and insignificant and Randy....so predictable. Always pushing the black contestants. You would think he would have learned his lesson after Fantasia and Rubin who turned out to be the LEAST successful Idol winners, not including Taylor Hicks whom Randy also (mistakingly backed).

The show really should go off the air. It's just not valid anymore. Can't even tell you the name of the guy/girl who won last year or the year before anyway.

I don't know why anyone has to bring negativity into a topic about a TV show. This is America, if you don't like it turn it off.
And,as far as ending the show, last week 55 million voted, and many of them paid, so as long as they make that kind of money on a program that costs little to produce, the show will go on. IMHO

Kelly Clarkson(pop).. Ruben Studdard(soul).. Fantasia(broadway).. and Carrie Underwood(country).. all of different music styles but yet all were still American Idol Winners. And if one were to do a google search on these contestants, one would see that each and every one of them are still doing very well with their careers.

Ruben Studdard(the Velvet Teddy Bear) has his own day declared to him by the Governor of Alabama(March 11).. Fantasia was declared by Simon Cowell as the best AI singer to date.. and Taylor Hicks is alive and kicking with his latest venue: a performance in concert at Lincoln Theatre in Mount Vernon, Washington, on April 27, 2011; at 7:30 PM! Tickets:$44 $39 $34 and $20.

Randy has been the most critical of all of the judges, to where he has even gone so far as to critisize Jacob Lusk(who btw is black) for not performing (recently) up to his potential. I believe we are going to be in for a "nice treat" as far as that is concerned :^)

Carrie Underwood has sold more albums than any other AI winner.
Clarkson comes in second.
Daughtry third (and he didn't even win AI).

Ruben and Fantasia? Instead of selling millions of CD's, they sell on in the 100's of thousands, not millions. Just check the stats. Hard to argue the facts.

Why do you think they hardly ever appear on AI? They don't appeal to the general population and their audience is predominantly black. Fewer blacks in America means fewer sales. Like I said, you have to appeal to the masses, not just one small segment of America.
