It's interesting that we the taxpayers have a Government agency that keeps track of Government spending and is largely ignored. Perhaps the GAO needs to be placed in the mix of Constitutional checks and balances. Instead of three entities, Executive, Legislative and Judicial, perhaps we need Government spending accountability to be the fourth check and balance in the system. A lot of money has been "pissed" away in years past. Funneling funds through the Department of Agriculture, look up Frank Bull. The DOE, the largest screw up was arguably Solyndra. Even the DOJ, "fast and furious"? Basically, no one is holding the tax purse strings. Many Government entities are using tax money to fund "their" agendas, unfettered and are not analyzed for the return on such a taxpayer funded investment.
