Today is your last chance to vote for your Top 4 favorites projects on Google Global Impact Challenge. This initiative will allow Google to support 4 non-profits organisations to launch and develop a project. Publics vote will name the winner of £500,000 prize, which represents about $758,000.
Here at Greenshine, we support all those wonderful projects of course. Each one of them will help people to have a better life. However, our favorite is the SolarAids project which will provide 14400 solar outdoor lights to communities in Tanzania. The NGO reported that this will help over half a million people there.
SolarAid is a London based non-profit which work on solar ights in African countries (Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and Malawi). They aim to replace dangerous and expensive kerosene lighting with solar outdoor lighting for communities. Most of the population barely have enough money to feed their families but have to buy kerosene to light up their pathways. Kerosene is a costly combustible and without this expense, families will be able to save more money on essentials consumer goods. This combustible is also very harmful for human health as well as the environment.
More than just providing people with solar street lights, the NGO also wants to generate job opportunities through this project. They train local entrepreneurs to develop their own solar outdoor lighting businesses and to sale the product. It is a long term and sustainable project. The goal is to allow them to be financially independent and to expend the use of solar powered lights in the country.
Other projects include prevention against children rape in Congo, new technology training for senior in the United Kingdom and a device to protect animals from poacher in Africa. To see SolarAid as well as all the other project (and vote of course!), visit Google Global Impact Challenge page. The jury, including Sir Richard Branson, will announce the winner as well as 3 other non-profits June 3rd.
