"Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar presented the proposal of a 750-megawatt facility near Blythe in Riverside County that would power more than 200,000 homes."
The artcle doesn't mention if this project and the other 2+ million MW projects have signed PPAs. Power Production Agreements. Without an agreement with an electric utility such as SCE or PG&E then there is no place for the generated electricity to go. This is NOT field of dreams. But could well be a waste of taxpayer money and trust. A lot of the new facilities being built are solar PV installations. You would do better putting solar PV on the roofs of 200,000 to 3,000,000 homes instead of wasting public lands for very large scale projects that have an uncertain future of having a utility buy the generated product.
