You can now get a solar PV system that is one panel and one micro-inverter attached to the panel. So, one could put in a system of say 2 to 3KW peak initially and increase the system one panel and one micro-inverter at a time until a particular power generation goal is reached. Look at products like Enphase Energy, AOM, GE Analay for panel micro-inverters components.
