Life after San Onofre is green: Editorial
"Clean, safe, too cheap to meter" - crazy as it may seem, that was the mantra of the nuclear power industry in the 1950s and '60s.

Nuclear waste from decommissioned power plants isn't the problem it seems. You need a cool down period to allow decay of the SHORTEST LIVED species (which produce most of the radiation) but after that, you can process it to separate out the fuel (plutonium, uranium, etc) isoatopes (which are minimally radioactive) from the 'fission fragments' which can be used for nuclear thermogenerators (generation of power from the heat produced). It is insane to want to bury the stuff while it is still so useful!
On the other hand, green power (solar, wind, etc) will replace a lot of the current power generators. And that is a good thing.

"Clean, safe, too cheap to meter"
I guess if you repeat a lie enough times, people are bound to believe it.
