Indian Point's Unit 3 Reconnected to the Grid; Plant Completes Refueling Outage in 28 Days
M2 Communications
Buchanan -- Control room operators at Indian Point's unit 3 nuclear power plant returned the unit to operation on Sunday afternoon, sending electricity to the grid. This follows a twenty-eight day period where unit 3 was shut down for a scheduled refueling outage.

During the shutdown, about 900 contractors supplemented Entergy's normal workforce of about 1,100 employees to add new fuel and perform thousands of maintenance activities, tests and inspections on equipment at unit 3.

"Thanks to the efforts of 2,000 highly trained and skilled workers, Indian Point's unit 3 is ready to safely generate clean electricity for New Yorkers until its next scheduled refueling in two years," said John Ventosa, site vice president and Entergy's top official at Indian Point.

Prior to this refueling outage, unit 3 had been online generating electricity more than 99 percent of the time since it returned to service from its last refueling outage in April 2011.

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.

Entergy Corporation, which celebrates its 100th birthday this year, is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including more than 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation's leading nuclear generators. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $10 billion and approximately 15,000 employees.

Great job by Entergy in New York and Vermont!
