"Like their EU peers, Swiss utilities have called for a cut in wind and solar power subsidies. The Swiss association of power producers VSE is calling for a mechanism that would pay pumped storage plant operators for the back-up they provide."
Stop pumped storage and put electro-chemical flow batteries in place of a massive volume of water to store power. Flow batteries have the ability to store more energy than a column of falling water, they can be brought online is seconds using electronics of power inverters and can be shut down just as quickly.
