Actually alternative energy could be the key to Michigan's future. There are currently 5 ethanol plants up and running-4 of which just began production this year. And another 4 in different phases of planning. All will employ well over 150-200 people during construction and an additional 50 or so people once it's up and running. There are several bio-diesel facilities that are also currently under construction or operating. All of these plants have added- or will add hundreds if not thousands of transportation and on-farm jobs. Not to mention the demand for gas stations, restaurants and much more in the towns where these plants are located.

The Mascoma Corporation is doing a feasibility study of the old Georgia-Pacific plant in Gaylord, to see if it could function as the nation's first commercial size cellulosic plant. There is a coal gassification plant in the works in Gratiot county, and if given the green light an energy park that could be built on the old Total Refinery property there.

Michigan's natural resources combined with our great and expansive workforce is the main reason these plants have decided to locate here. Not to mention wind farms, and other newly developing forms of alternative energy. The hard part is convincing the population that this is actually something our state could not only benefit from, but could potentially be a leader in nationwide.

Pam, if you want to convice people that such a fuel source is ethically wrong in some way, you should probably read a little about it first. Informed arguments are much more persuasive. Unless you are trying to convince chimps. Then keep flinging shit, and it will probably work.
P.S. I am not a liberal. I`m on your side. I`m just disgusted at the partisanship in this country.
