Semi-neat but too complex. Maybe he should try using an insulated container of LiNO3 (or something similar) to absorb the solar energy when it melts and then take the container to his cooker to give back the heat when it freezes. Basically all the pipes and valves and dangerously hot fluids in the pipes could be eliminated, making the system safer and cheaper.

And the solar unit could be made larger and heat-charge many such containers during the day.

Just a thought.
