"Reducing mankindÂ’s carbon footprint has become the defining issue of our time and rightly so. Virtually every level of government has policies to reduce greenhouse gases by regulating everything from industrial CO2 emissions to cow flatulence."

Interesting you mention cow flatulence. A few years back a group in South America did a study on the amount of methane a cow "generates" in a day. The cows were fitted with a hose into one of their stomachs and a hose expelled the gas into a balloon on the cow's back. It was determined that on average a cow will generate about 70 liters of methane a day. It has been said that there are about 1.5 billion cattle on the earth. So, on average our milk and hamburger feedstock also gives off about 70L x 1.5 billion or 1.05 x 10 to the 11th power of methane gas each day.

As for the solar is only 0.2% of the energy mix. Subsidize it until it has been around for 150 years like fossil fuel and see what the mix will be.
