"The proposed project would be located on 3,277 acres of private land leased in Inyo County next to the Nevada border. The project site is about eight miles south of Pahrump, Nevada and about 45 miles west of Las Vegas. The transmission line and the natural gas pipeline would be located in Nevada on public land managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management."
So, will the natural gas pipeline be used to fire boilers at night or on cloudy days? This makes the generation station capable of being used as a spinning and baseload generation resource. A couple of other projects have been scaled back because the type of technology used could not be used as a baseload or spinning generation resource. PPAs, Power Production Agreements with utility companies need to be signed before the generated product has anywhere to go. It is more attractive to a utility if the generation can be used "as needed" instead of as a peak load generation source only.
