One of the respondents to the story Ed Maguire says:"I'm very fiscal conservative but I've done a lot of work on this topic and I believe strongly that conservatives should embrace clean energy. Not just because it's clean, but for national security reasons as well. Growth in solar generating capacity would paradoxically lower demand and the price of oil. What would be the implications of $20 barrel oil for Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela? With low price not from supply glut, but because other alternatives are cheaper? You can see where I'm going. No boondoggles, just market, and creative alternatives to financing the cap ex. I've got friends here in the Northeast that get checks from the utility every month. Of course we will need oil and gas for decades, nothing is 100%, but I respect John and the Power line readers and feel passionately about this."

" I highly recommend this recent book by Tony Seba. it lays out the case in readable, factual arguments. I'm a financial analyst and the arguments are quantiative and extremely well sourced: http://www.amazon.com/Clean-Disruption.../dp/... ;

Good thoughts Ed, people are not getting off of their asses to DO something about it. Solar and wind are intermittent, the sun doesn't shine at night, solar PV is a good idea but the ROI is not there yet, blah, blah, blah....

In the scheme of things, these are the people who drive around in their money pit of a vehicle, no thought of ROI there. For the same cost once, they could lessen or eliminate their energy bill for life, go figure. The power utilities are afraid, very afraid that someday folks will realize that they can do better by taking responsibility for their own power generation and usage. This type of institutionalization is the mark of corporate America on the consuming public.
