California solar inflates your electric bill
With state and federal renewable energy subsidies continued into Obama's second term, the survival of rooftop solar installations can continue.Full Story

"Myopic California utility regulations cause rises in non-solar customer electricity rates to make up the difference, according to Southern California Edison."
What's myopic is Edisons inability to move towards the future. When a homeowner or business puts solar PV on their roofs, Edison doesn't have to file an EIR, go to court to defend a project or build more power corridors. The power from the solar PV system goes back into the grid and right across the street to the neighbor. If the homeowner or business owner doesn't maintain their system, then Edison gets their 24/7 customer back. Where are they losing?
"About 20,000 customers of San Diego Gas & Electric have connected 146 megawatts of solar panels to its grid, accounting for 1.2 percent of its peak load. SDG&E canít collect about $18 million to $20 million a year in electric power grid costs from customers with rooftop solar panels. Thus, the utility will be shifting about $200 million in annual costs to customers without solar panels under state-capped limits."
Yes, 146 megawatts they don't have to generate or maintain a generation facility to create the power. They're not spending any money on EPA or CARB regulation infrastructure to keep the power generation online and within the law. So, no money is spent on EIR, legal fees, and plant upgrades to meet new clean air standards, all they need to do is store the energy and use it when needed. Perhaps they have a poor business model and need to use the high paid executives to find a better business model than to use private solar PV insallations as an excuse to raise rates. Of course none of the utilities want to talk about how much they save in overhead by having someone else create a peak source of power for them. The utility could also pass this along to those who don't have a solar PV system on their homes. But do they do this? NOOOOOoooooooo!
