"It ran for about nine months then began to cut out, failing to generate power even on a sunny day."

The end of the line position along the grid probably sends a good amount of noise to the inverters. Noise that could well be detected as a fail in the grid. Then the inverters shut down. Why the inverters don't sample and re-establish connection to the grid could be a programming change needed within the inverter(s). It could also be the owner doesn't realise that the utility might be browning out and causing the inverter(s) to trip. This is a utility problem not a solar PV system problem.

Dimbleby, it's called RESPONSIBILITY, take some. It's YOUR own private generation system, find out what it will take to make it work at YOUR home. Start out by finding an electrician that can install a line monitoring recorder on your main C.B. panel and see what the electric grid is doing, from sags to surges to phase loss, frequency shift and total harmonic distortion on the line. The utillity may need to replace the transformer that feeds your property.

A sculptor that cuts corners will eventually find it all circles back to him. When dealing with interfacing your power system into foreign power source {Grid} it becomes essential that a control panel that can register abnormalities arising from the Foreign grid interacting with your power supply. It goes without saying that all functions of personnel power source is individually monitored. Yes including the operational status of meters. Personnel individual power utilities will need to use their systems in accordance to their own personnel use and storage as well as responsible to any possible abnormalities in its dispersals.
