"Potential solar panel users are typically required to pay up front for the cost of the installation and actual solar panels. With only a promise of long-term savings, the large initial investment can prove daunting for many considering the switch from traditional energy to solar."

Yeah, when one "buys" a new vehicle and spends somewhere in the neighborhood of 40K, then has reoccuring costs for fuel, insurance, maintenance, repair, for an average of five to seven years, then they do it all over again. So instead many lease a vehicle, so they can get "more" vehicle for less money each month. For the difference of buying a lease return as compared to a new vehicle, one could put a substantial amount of solar on one's roof and defer or eliminate one's electric bill for life.
