The problem with such plans is that you need a constant source or CHEAP power to run them. So far, the only thing that approaches that description is the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor, energy cheaper than coal.

Oops, left out another attribute needed, i.e., carbon free. Still a job for LFTRs.
